I have one of those 640's with my 2012 HD-35's and it never raised an eyebrow. Love the case, I don't get it.

Just get the Geib, the 600's have metal edges top/bottom, we used to call them finger-eaters..............
The Vintage series all get Geibs.

As has been mentioned before: Martin has been using this exact same case (with possible color difference) for the Standard Series since the 70's.

Even the Road Series from Mexico come with a nicer case.

Because they're all about profits. And those cases are cheap. Same reason you get Richlite on a 2k+ guitar.

IMO Martin has jumped the shark.

Does Martin have a different case policy for custom shop guitars? The CS-00-18 I got from LA Guitar Sales last year came with a very nice Geib style 500 series case.

A Custom Shop guitar will come with whatever case the base model uses, unless a different case is selected as part of the Custom Shop order.

My CEO-7 came in a Geib style case which seems pretty nice to me -- not the very nicest version of a multi-ply case with an arched top that I've seen, but nice all the same, and better than average for sure. And the CEO doesn't retail for anything remotely like 5k. What did you get?

I have a more expensive guitar that has traveled a bit more -- I bought a Hiscox flight case that I'm happy with, but I bought it separately.

I find the plastic case for my HD35 has been more durable than the Geib case my D18 Custom came in. The Geib case lost one of the small metal feet, and the handle broke. Only 2 years old.

At least they searched for the topic in the forum. I can't tell you how many times people post on my threads to use the search function. Nobody is ever happy. It's either wrong to start a new thread and not search, or wrong to post on an old thread.

It happens....

It's not just Martin...

The last couple of Collings dreads I've bought came in shamefully low grade TKL cases. Terrible latches, tops that didn't match up, etc.

Those cases are now in storage in the event I should sell the guitar one day. In the meantime, all of my acoustics live in Hiscox Pro II cases. Couldn't be happier with them!

Collings started building their own cases and Martin now sources some cases from GWW. Maybe that tells us something about the current quality and capabilities of TKL...
