Default Martin Binding Separating (cost to fix?)

I have a 2014 Martin 000-28. The binding around the wait is separating slightly on all four sides. Not a ton, but enough to feel it and get a fingernail between the body and the binding. I bought it used, so it is no longer under warranty.

Any sense of what this will cost to fix?

Depends on the shop, of course. I had an OM-35 with the same problem. It cost me $140 to have reglued. Expertly done, no sign of a problem afterward.

It's really not that difficult to do yourself. There are some great videos on You Tube showing the proper procedures and supplies. I'm getting ready to do my personal 2014 000-18. Of course I used to own a music store and did this stuff for a living so if you don't trust your capabilities, you're probably better off paying someone. I recently talked to a Martin service guy about it and he offered to do it while I waited but gave me no indication of price because he hadn't seen it. The hardest part is trying to keep the super glue from getting all over the guitar. Masking tape is your friend. You'll also have to carefully scrape excess glue, lightly sand the areas and buff to bring the shine back.

If you are the original owner it's a warranty job.

It’s INSANE Martin hasn’t fixed this yet. But, yes, it’s a DIY job for most. See above.

I had this same issue with my Martin M-38 years ago. I took it to a Martin dealer and it was covered under the warranty. But you may be without your guitar for a while depending on how the shop handles the repair.
Best,
Jayne

Welcome to the club…it’s a fairly large membership…and growing.
Sorry about your misfortune. Luckily my friend and myself bought ours new and they are being repaired under warranty. Hopefully yours won’t be expensive.
I would shy away from a do it yourself repair. That’s just me.

Notice to any Martin owners:
“Make sure you register your new Martin when you purchase it.”
Otherwise…no warranty.

I thought this issue had been resolved at Martin? this is a 2018 guitar- maybe built during the period when they were having this problem?
*feel bad for the OP - this would frustrate the heck outta me for sure

It's a simple job and should cost under a couple of hundred dollars.

I’ve received a guitar with the sides of the binding repair done poorly and would avoid buying any guitar with a history of the binding shrinkage but no receipt for the repair work.
So if resale is important to you I would have the repair done by Martin, or their recommended shop and keep the receipt.
If you are selling it as a player grade, I guess you can diy, but I certainly wouldn’t.

I've seen quite a few people post here over the last year about the binding issue on their 2018 models and I can't find it so maybe I'm wrong but I thought someone had the issue on a 2019 or 2020, hopefully I'm mistaken.

Yeah, I wouldn’t try the repair myself. Their is an authorized Martin repair shop about a mile from my house that I plan to use. I bought the guitar used so no warranty.

I tried to reglue the binding on one of my guitars and it was a disaster.
I used superglue like was suggested but too much squirted out and got on the top of my guitar.
When I tried to wipe off the excess, the finish on the guitar came off.

Moral of the story,
If you don't know what you are doing, don't do it yourself.

There's a 2020 000-18 with binding separation on this Martin forum thread
