Default Irvin Guitars - build thread - Tasmanian Blackwood - Larry Robinson inlay

Here are just a few shots of a recent build I completed for a special customer. He is from Tasmania. He and his best friend had a band for a number of years and eventually life took its course where they got married, had families etc. the band broke up. Recently they were able to get back together and commissioned me to build each of them a guitar that was filled with representations of their long time friendship and some elements of what was mutually meaningful to them. Fittingly, they wanted Tasmanian blackwood for the back and sides. One chose sitka spruce and the other chose some wonderful old growth cedar that I had. Here are just a few shots of the build and some final photos. I didn't want to bore you with too many details but the Tasmanian Blackwood was remarkable to build with. Outstanding tonal qualities. These guitars have unbelievable response. the sound simply explodes out of them with just the lightest touch. they were very fun to build. If you've never uses Tasmanian Blackwood before, I'd encourage you to try it. I loved working with it. the figure was a bit tricky to bend but not impossible. Hope you enjoy the photos.
I wish I could add a sound clip. I simply am not equipped to do so. Trust me, the sound is outstanding. I was privileged to have Larry Robinson do the fingerboard inlay of the Hebrew calligraphy that they requested. Larry of course, did his usually outstanding perfect job. enjoy and thanks for viewing.

Love seeing some local timbers getting used overseas, especially for local musicians as well!! Does the duo have a name?
