New Cargo Issues
I just obtained new Cargo and have a question about a couple of things.
The high E string is much louder than all others and has a rather shrill, piercing sound...but only when played open. Fretted it sounds normal. I've changed strings and fooled around with tuning up/down to no avail. Any ideas why. It is a noticeable enough to be annoying. This would be a really cool guitar without this issue. I do have a saddle on the way from Peavey because I want to lower the action a bit. Secondly, this Cargo has a Fishman pickup with just a soundhole volume dial. Anyone have an idea what system this is? Both Peavey and Fishman are clueless. Thanks, Steve |

First string nut slot (too low and/or poorly ramped)

Check out Rick-slo's theory and also make sure there no oddness under the first string at the saddle. I think electronics can be ruled out since the issue also occurs when unplugged.
The new saddle might help too. Good luck!

Problem only happens on open string!

If it sounds normal when fretted, that points clearly to some issue with the nut on that string. Changing out the saddle should not markedly affect this problem (but may do other things for you).

2 questions.
Did it have the issue when played it at Mark's shop ? Have you spoken to Mark about your concerns ? |

I would suspect the nut. Should be an easy fix for your dealer.

I own three Cargos and have not experienced this. Sounds like you might have a setup issue. If you bought it locally, take it back to the store and ask them about it, if purchased online, than give them a call.
As to the electronics, your guitar should have the LR Baggs Active Element in it. http://www.lrbaggs.com/pickups/eleme...-guitar-pickup |

I'm glad you brought this up. The EXACT occurrence appears ocassionally on my wood guitars. Always on the high strings. The octave on my g 12 string. I change that string in a few months when I change the set and it goes away.

I've tried changing strings and string gauges to no avail.
I can mitigate the sound somewhat by picking/strumming further up the neck. When playing chords with an open E it almost sounds like a drone effect. Very frustrating. I'm wondering if it's something that only I can hear. My set up guy didn't think he heard much of an issue. He's about 35, I'm 69. |

DryFly;
I'd check with other players. This does not sound right. |

I had the same issue with a Collings OM, took it to 2 techs, they both said it was fine and was just something I was focusing too much on. Regardless, it was real to me and drove me crazy at times, I could hear it when strumming chords. I did notice that I didn't hear it if i was in front of the guitar and someone else was playing it. Sold the guitar for that and other reasons.
