I'm interested in trying out the Baggs M80. Some people have said that it may leave a mark on the guitar it's been installed on.

Has anyone actually had this happen or is it just an assumption?

I use a Baggs M1 on my gigging guitars which attaches the same way and I've had no issues at all. They're not supposed to be cranked down too tightly, just snug enough to secure them because they also pick up body resonance. If there has been actual damage caused by these it's likely because they were installed too tightly.

I've had an M80 on one of my guitars for a few months now. I've had a few mag's over the years and this one seems to attach better than others. It hasn't fallen off and it seems secure without me over tightening it.

I'm not an expert, but I have no complaints at this point.

I have the same report. I was playing my guitar with the M80 yesterday afternoon. Looked and sounded great.

I've had one in my D18 a few years now & gig with it...don't overtighten mounting screws, jus' snug 'em up till you can't move pickup with reasonable effort and you'll be fine.

I don't use any padding either because I like the percussive element & make sure you adjust pole pieces, it makes a huge difference as well as placement if you want 5th fret harmonics to ring.

Best wishes, it's a nice pickup, especially for fingerstyle, jazzy leads & softer strumming.

I gig full time and one of my guitars uses the M80. It leaves no marks after six years and hundreds of gigs with the same M80 but moved to other guitars at times. Great pu in my opinion.

I tightened my M80 down too much on my Seagull S6 and it did leave a nice dent. It may be worth noting that this guitar has a cedar top which may be softer (and easier to damage) than spruce varieties. Take care not to over tighten and you should be golden.
