Beautiful Strat!

As far as new or used, a guitar if cared for should last 100 years or more. With new, you'll often pay sales tax and take a 40% depreciation hit the moment it leaves the showroom floor. Why do that? Seems kind of stupid, if you ask me.

Default NGD - why I prefer to buy used these days...

That Strat is gorgeous! And the matching is amazing, I tried to find the seams on the pics but no, couldn't do it.

Regarding ash, Am Standards didn't always come as ash on sunburst, mine is from 92 and is 3-tone sunburst on alder. That looks like 2-tone sunburst though which are always (I think) on ash, like the Telecaster 2-tone sunburst.

Awesome Strat!

About buying used, both my Strat and Tele were purchased used. They are great guitar after I modded them.

When I was going to drop $2,000+ on a Gibson Les Paul Traditional I looked at used ones of course. After months of playing LP's I realized for this money I wanted brand new.

It's not that the used ones were horrible it was that they already had wear. I wanted to be the one who put the wear on the guitar from the start.

When I found the deal on my LP which was a brand new 2016 Traditional Honey Burst model for less than a used one I jumped on it.

I bought a 2016 Les Paul Trad "used" several months back from a very reputable seller on another forum. $700 less than usual street price. It was DEAD MINT AS-NEW. 100% perfect in every way. Gorgeous balanced flame top. More like it are out there even now. :-)

And ... looks like it might be on the For Sale block soon. A custom order for a different category of musical instrument has shown up way earlier than me and the builder thought, and that one gets priority over this Strat. :-( Stay tuned.

I prefer buying used.

I buy used cars because I want to. Same with guitars. I simply feel that a lot of effort on my part can pay off with a fantastic deal.

Sometimes the guitar might even need a little TLC, which I like to think I've gotten adept at providing.

I would be embarrassed to tell you the good deals I got on my guitars.
