Default An almost 50 dollar guitar recording

Hi folks

On the subject of the cost being an indicator of how good an instrument is or can fit a specific purpose....for example recording.

Well...I picked up this so called Peavey Composer guitar at a flea market today. It cost me 45 Euros (about 50 dollars). Now the thing is pretty heavy for being a little parlor nylon string but has a nice natural compression. Not too bad for recording. No EQ or anything else but a slight reverb used.

I think these guitars (which I think of many are considered as wear and tear guitars cost something around 90 dollars or so as new.

I enjoyed your playing, Farhad. You provide evidence to it being "the player" in the never-ending debate of "is it the guitar or is it the player?"

Nice stuff.

Well, I think what I wanted to emphasize was also that much can be compensated for also with recording technique, placement of the mic and so forth...I mean needless to say one can ruin a 12000 dollars guitar recording by for example placing a mic right in front of the guitar and/or bad nails etc.

Thanks very much by the way. Glad you like the tune.

Loved your playing and expression facially. Looks like you love what you are playing there and certainly into it. I bet that little bit of guitar wins over a little bit of your heart. Looks like it already. Great pick.

Sounded surprisingly good. So you comments about mic placements begs me to ask about the specifics of your mic placement

Default Very nice indeed!

I enjoyed the sound of the guitar, and even more so: your playing!
Thanks for sharing!
Beeing quite new to the acoustic side of the music world I do not know the name of the tune, could you please tell me? And also where can I buy the tabs for the arrangement you played?
I have been sitting behind a Hammond B3 playing in a bluesband for the last 30 odd years, but I have started to play acoustic, and do enjoy it a lot!
Thanks again!

Sure, actually in the video I am playing with the recording I made earlier during the day with this guitar. Then I used two mics, one about 90 cm at an angle of about 30 degrees from the lower bout, the other one about 60 - 70 cm from the 7th fret angled at about 30 degrees towards the 12th fret. I used Garageband, the Duett settings were at 47 for both mics. The EQ was flat, the mid and base cut off around half...a bit of revered. Compression was on at about 5% so basically very little compression.

Thank you so much and welcome to the forum. I see this was your first post. You know having long hours at work and having 2 kids doesn't leave so much time for making out tabs but please do feel free to subscribe to my channel and I will as soon as I get possibility demonstrate the song slowly so you can easily learn.

This is perhaps one the most famous Celtic tunes. It is called Sheebeg Sheemore (there are different spelling on this). It is apparently a romantic story...sort of like Romeo and Juliet. Like all other songs on my channel I always create my own version of the songs. I simply don't se the point of playing a tune exactly like it is played by most people or the original version but I always try to stay true to the main theme.

Thanks again and hope you find many nice posts on the forum.
