Default Opinions on the Carvin NS1?

I'm in a bit of a kicking the tires phase. Options wise, they seem pretty cheap. I'd prefer one with a satin finished neck, so I might just order one since it's still affordable with the added options I'd want.

I hope to get a fanned 7 string at some point, which would obviously be a "little" expensive and take a while to build.

This would seem to be a nice and portable machine and give me the chance to mess around with MIDI.

His clips of the SH575 and NS1 definitely got me thinking about the possibilities of a MIDI guitar. He definitely makes them sound nice and is a heck of a musician.

midi is a nice toy, and a great tool , but whatever is the midi controler (guitar, keybords, sax) the sounds are generated from the synth so
1) you should find a good sounding synth
2)its very difficult whatever the synth is to make a guitar sound like a piano or a sax
3) there are some great software instruments that can be played through midi

all in all midi is a lot of fun but needs a lot of effort to make it work

Fair enough. I was more or less looking at this mostly as a thinline nylon with MIDI as an added bonus.

Any suggestions for the synth part?

i only can suggest software
native instruments ...New York piano, b4, west Africa thats what i use but there are a lot more
with a sound card with midi access you will have fun
i am talking about the quality of sounds and not ease of use

for hardware the best synths are NORD..never played one but everyone whos someone plays one

I'll take a look at those. Steve Oliver seems to get decent sounds out of a Roland and those tend to be fairly common.

I'll definitely take a look at them. I'll probably get some hardware and software if/when I get a bass with MIDI. Kinda seems like a good idea if my band stays a trio.

Any opinions on the guitar itself or similar-ish Carvin nylons?

I've had my eye on it for a long time. I live in San Diego, and whenever I go to the Carvin factory showroom to get some gear, I play the NS1 for a few minutes.
Nice axe. I just wish I had a reason/excuse to buy one.

Thanks. My "excuse" is simply that I don't have a nylon string guitar.

I'd been looking at an Carvin NS-1, but decided to get a YouRock first to see if Midi made any sense at all. It is still in its box, though, while I get my head around Live 9 and see if I want to go the Push route.

But if the YouRock works at all (and the reviews are pretty positive), my next step may be the Carvin rather than the Push....
