Amp shopping
Being new to electrics I'd appreciate input on on amps, please. I prefer classic/prgreesive stuff like Tull, Floyd, Yes, SRV, Cream, etc. Today I start looking for something inexpensive, small & has a headphone out. Effects aren't important to start. The nearest I can find to fit my bill is a Roland Cube, is there anything that competes in the size/price/quality range?
ps.... The amp won't be moved and if there's a decent head with a headphone out that would be ok.

If this is about an electric guitar I will encourage you to try tube amps with spring reverb before you commit to much spent on a solid state amp. There is just a bit of something there that is more rewarding to playing and the ears. I would have saved a lot of time and money if I truly knew that at square one. A strategy to get that could be pick up a used practice amp with phone jacks and used tube amp. If you can spend the money there is something like the Princeton Recording amp with the attenuator and there are some lower cost tube and solid state combos. Have fun shopping. |
