Jake, I am slightly envious. I have been test driving every J45 I see these days and I have a case of GAS for one.
That one you have coming looks spectacular and I can't wait to hear you showcase it. Congrats!

TyeeTime - It's cool that you are getting a chance to play a few of them. I didn't have the luxury. In fact, I have only played 1 other J-45 in the past few months. |

Here's a 2007 J-45 True Vintage.
Just posted yesterday on Reverb. Original owner selling it .. looks nice! I believe '07 is first year for this model. https://reverb.com/item/4340843-gibs...coustic-guitar (No affiliation) |

Thanks! I can't wait to put it through the paces.
I think it will suit my playing and singing well.....Right now my Larrivee OM-40 is my #1. I am curious to see if it will be dethrowned from it's position. The only thing I'm thinking about is this J-45's neck...It is some kind of modified V shape. Does that mean it is less V? I don't like thin necks either. So I have no idea what to expect since I have never seen or played it! All part of the fun! |

So I ordered on Friday but no tracking yet ... Hopefully it shipped already. Which means I should get it by end of this week.
In mean time, I was still curious about the model "J-45 VOS". So I did some more digging and found this on a Gibson Support forum. We now apply the V.O.S. finish (Vintage Original Specs) to the J-45 TV. This is a procedure which makes the guitar look like a vintage guitar that has been built decades ago and always been kept in a good condition. Nitrocellulose finish gets a distinctive look when a guitar ages and the V.O.S. finish is a recreation of this look. |

Congratulations!! These are great instruments.
I bought all 3 in '08 and love all of them. Each a different beast. But all have the same 'licked by my dog' kind of blurry finish. Enjoy making music. |

Congrats- they tend to be nice and light guitars, not just due to the absence of electrics/pre-amp/battery, but also by the top, back, and sides not having to have a sufficient number of coats for high gloss. Some people with VOS finished True Vintage guitars will polish/buff them out for more shine. In either case, with time, it's interesting to see where your hand/fingers brush up against the top, as that will start to develop a shine in those spots. . . testament to the guitar being enjoyed.
