Talking Strings for my Martin D-15 M?

Hey there! This is my first appearance on AGF!
In 2014 I was lucky enough to travel around the USA and I got myself this left handed mahogany beauty. I'm thinking about changing her strings since I'm still using the original ones. Any recommendations?

A few tips: I chose a dreadnought body because I like to have a big sound. I play between folk, fingerstyle and acoustic grunge (e.g. Iron & Wine, Neil Young, Chris Cornell, Coldplay (the old Coldplay), Fleet Foxes, Feist, Antoine Dufour). I play mostly instrumental songs.

Thanks a lot in advance! Hope you can help me out!

Luigi

I really like the Life Span MSP7100 (light)s on my 00015M. I tried the Retro strings and didnt like them. I know lots of folks here love them on the Mahogany guitars. I actually have a set of them on my Eastman E10D and like them.

But I switched back yesterday. I also feel that the tension is less with the retros, but loved how they weren't as noisy as the MSP7100's... I try so many string but still come back to them..and they last a while.

Wait, the same kind of strings or THE actual strings? You've had the same 6 strings on your D-15 since 2014? Wow!

I don't have a full-hog but count me as a fan of Retros on just about anything. I also love Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronzes on my D-18, as well as DR Sunbeams.

Let me be the first to say WELCOME!

A lefty who has an all hog and likes acoustic 'grunge'... I've never even met you and I like you already. Good luck on string choice, there's a lot of knowledgeable people here who can steer you in the right direction. I personally have no advice (d15m is still only a dream for me) but GOOD LUCK!

Martin Retro strings sounds pretty darn sweet on my hog top.

Good ol D'Addario EJ-16 strings sounds great too especially after a few days in....

Have fun!

Luigi, I've generally found that I prefer 80/20 bronze strings on all-mahogany guitars. I use, prefer, recommend and endorse John Pearse strings, so the set I would put on that guitar are the John Pearse 80/20's in either medium or bluegrass gauge (which is a hybrid set with medium gauge bass strings and light gauge trebles.). I would try both of those sets on that guitar, because sometimes having lighter treble strings will bring out the treble response better.

Hope this helps.
