Default Ana Vidovic performing Cavatina

I think it's a given that Ana Vidovic is a master guitarist.

What's interesting is how her interpretations have changed over time.

Compare the first one with the second. When I heard the second, my initial remark was "Someone broke her heart."

The second one certainly put a lump in my throat.

Enjoy!

This is her performing when she was a child:

I agree Tom.

She is incredible and this is a demanding piece.

On the first one all the notes were there.

The second shows her maturity. A lot more nuance.

Thanks for sharing a great piece.

Lovely. If I'm not wrong, the second was recorded at Ocean Way Nashville (now owned by Belmont).

Totally different. In the first she's on stage in front of a large audience trying to hit all the notes, In the second she making a recording that could have multiple takes and she can go for the expression. And she's amazing.

Phenomenal player. Interesting to listen for the tonal differences between the two different guitars.

She is probably the best guitar master player currently in the world.
I watched her few times and well that's to die for (listening in person).
I had chance being at her performance in front of several friends at home.
Breathtaking, stellar, second to none are words that comes to mind and her ability to add fresh touches is now beyond anything I've ever heard.
It is even hard to take guitar again after such experience.

Ana Vidovic is certainly my favorite classical guitarist. Her playing is very sensitive and her tone is incredible.

She plays Recuerdos better than anyone I have heard.

I've heard about 75% of the people you listed play dozens of pieces. Ana is better, IMO.

Thank for you the list; I will check out the names I have not heard.

Please accept this it is a matter of opinion. I don't think Elliot Fisk, for example, is even in the same league as Ana Vidovic. I think he is amazing, but I found it funny that you listed him as better than Ana Vidovic because he is easily a tier below her, IMO. But if someone said Elliot Fisk was the best classical player, I wouldn't say they need to get out more. Bream, Williams, Romero... yeah they are fantastic and on virtually everyone's list of top classical players... and Ana is usually on that list, too. Who is better isn't an objective matter of fact. It isn't like someone is saying Randy Rhodes was the best classical player ever or anything, which would still be subjective but also highly suspect.

It is a little strange you say Ana Vidovic would be lower on people's lists if male. I don't think her gender has gotten her ahead at all. Personally, I don't think her gender matters one bit. She is the best because she has the best tone, dynamics, and phrasing. Better than Williams, Romero, Bream etc...

By listing some of the most famous classical players you make it seem like Ana Vidovic fans haven't even heard the most famous classical players. Yeah, we've heard them, we just like Ana Vidovic better.

If someone cites Ana Vidovic as the best classical guitarist, it is highly unlikely they have not heard of Andrew York, Pepe Romero, Elliot Fisk, Julian Bream, John Williams etc...

Now if someone cites Esteban is the best classical guitarist, I think giving them a list like you did might be a good idea.

I just saw her play here a couple weeks ago. Alas, I brought my nine year-old daughter (budding violinist!) and the concert did not start until 8pm. She was asleep in my lap by the end of the second piece. I got to hear the first half of the program before taking her home. Half a concert is better than no concert, and it was worth the ticket price.
