Les chemins d'Élodie
I had a rough Friday and wasn't feeling very well until I decided to grab my guitar and write a new piece about finding solace in the darkest places. Then everything made sense again.
"Les chemins d'Élodie" is a simple piece which I recorded with my Gibson L-00 1937 Legend -- mostly because it was the only guitar that was out of its case. Unlike many L-00s that I've tried, for better or worse mine sounds rather warm and has decent sustain (for a small Gibson). It's not the best guitar for this type of music but I thought it did the job alright. In any case, I hope you enjoy my latest composition. Thank you for listening. https://youtu.be/Gx2DCXej6fE |

Wonderful, Mau! Of course, you could have had a cereal box out of its case and chosen that to make great sounds, my friend!
Yes, contemplative and inspiring augmentation of your original theme. That's what I love about your work....you embellish so beautifully, those simple melodies. ( and some not so simple!) You really seemed in the zone with this one......Bravo!

Another great piece, Mau. I felt it had a somber mood (I like that) and it made me reflect.
I hope today is better than yesterday for you. I no longer drink but if I did I'd share one with you. |

I hear it as a tension between connection and disconnection.
Your dominant style is melody connectivity, always with a landing place for the expected next note--a very pretty style. The melancholy of this tune for me was the disconnections, at about 1:00, 2:00, and 3:40--I took them to represent where our positive expressions of life just stop. Then, the melody reinstates, not sadly, but actually hopefully again.

That's a beautiful composition. Hauntingly reflective.

Yo Paisan,
I truly enjoyed this piece as I get ready to go out in the crazy world to play at my gig at 11am! This melody may be simple as you say, but imo it's among your best. Lovely sounding instrument and tasteful use of effect. Nice start to my day, thanks bro; eric

I must say it's much easier to be "in the zone" and keep my eyes closed when the main chords are Em/C/G... You often notice the little things that I think about when I write music and I always appreciate your comments. |

Thanks so much, Dru. I'm not a big drinker myself. The last time I partied on alcohol it took me several days to recover... Not for me. At least not anymore...

The silence between the phrases was inspired by TE's version of "And So It Goes" (perhaps my favourite Billy Joel song) which I was casually playing before it morphed into this. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your thoughts. |

Thanks so much for your support. Writing this piece allowed me to be elsewhere for a few hours...

I got lucky with my L-00. I ordered it sight unseen and it turned out to be a really nice one. It hasn't required a setup since it left the factory and the red spruce top is visually flawless. |

Well it is not so much the guitar than the player!....(unless that is a maple guitar) .
That was beautiful. In more trendy terms...by playing this song you got it out of you and came in touch with your quantum self.
