It is interesting that most Taylors I have tried out in person have not impressed me a lot, but this is not the first time that a recording of a Taylor has really caught my attention. To my ears this one has a very nice recorded sound (and perhaps I'd love playing it too!).

YamaYairi - yes, those are the internal (infernal?!) mics on the DR-05. As for position, I have the recorder on a tripod. I was sitting quite close to the unit (approx. 1-1.5 feet away), and had the DR-05 raised to about midway between the guitar and my mouth, favoring a bit higher than lower. On the first recording I did with the DR-05, I thought the vocal sounded a bit thin and "distant", so this time around I made myself sit closer to it; although it seemed I was WAY TOO CLOSE, the sound was much nicer than previous attempts. I'd forgotten what sort of proximity condensor mics like to "hear"! As far as right hand technique goes, my style is an amalgam of flat-picking, finger picking and many years of performing solo but wanting to add bits and pieces to spice up the songs without sacrificing the feel or groove... much as I would LOVE to stretch out playing single-note lines over those changes, to my ears it doesn't work to have the "bottom" fall out, just so I can play some lead guitar parts... Again, thanks for the kind words... and wcap? You STILL haven't mentioned your daughter's name... got that "protective Dad" thing going? Well, perhaps she'll actually become a member here, one day, and she can tell us herself!

A lady with a lovely voice and good fingerplaying skills came to my open mic last night and did a Joni Mitchell-esque version of You Ain't A-Goin' Nowhere. I told her about this place and the June Showcase and she said she was going to come here and check it out.
Welcome, Wendy, if you read this!

Great stuff so far! You guys are awesome!
We are in the middle of a remodel and things are scattered all about. Our sunroom, which I use for recording, is full of all of our "stuff" from four other rooms. I may have to do something with just a handheld recorder. I'm thinking it might be "Nashville Skyline Rag" or "One More Night." Todd

My Back Pages
Bob Dylan responded to an onslaught of requests for his support of many different causes with the somewhat cryptic song "My Back Pages." Although he wrote it in 1964, he actually didn't perform it live until 1988. The Byrds recording of it was a hit in 1967. Here is our rendition that takes elements of both Dylan and the Byrds: My Back Pages
