Default Beatles[Blackbird]

How many people in this forum can play Blackbird by the Beatles? It seems like this is the most frequent song I hear everytime I walk into GC. everytime I walk into GC, someone has to play that song. I figure it must be universal to guitar players and thus, everyone knows how to play it.

I do.......it's one of my wife's favorite songs. As a result, I play it often. That way she never objects to a new Taylor.

I admit it, I play it. It was the first 'complicated' song I learned and I still play it a lot (though not every time!)

When I was looking to buy my first guitar I really knew nothing and went to a store and the guy at the store played some guitars for me so I could hear them. He played Blackbird (unasked, that's what he played) and at the time I remember thinking that if I learned to play that song then I would be happy!

The thing is...I can play it now, but I'm still not happy! Still trying to learn new songs...

I do. I've been playing since 1964 and just learned the song this year.

I know it, but I don't play it unless I'm alone or someone else asks for it. I like it well enough, but as noted, it gets played everywhere.

Does anyone have this on MP3? or have a link to it on MP3? I can't think of what this song sounds like.

I've only heard Phil Keaggy's live version (yes, I'm deprived...) and there's an mp3 of that here (about halfway down the page). Obviously, I don't know how true it is to the original but it's a cool tune.

[If memory serves, it was a request. I have the whole show around here someplace but I'm too tired to go look.]

I've been playing it for years, but I recently learned a different/easier way to play it using the E string, thus eliminating the need for that 'big stretch'.

I know it, at least part of it anyway...

What about Stairway to Heaven? I know it has become sort of a cliche, but the intro is actually a nice fingerpicking exercise.

I can lick off a polished Stairway, but have never tried Blackbird.....worth a shot.

Anyone got a good tab for it?

Well, I haven't been playing that long, maybe since 1968, but I also just learned it this year. I felt pretty proud of myself when I learned it. The hard part is singing it and playing it simultaneously.

I enjoy playing that tune.

It's popularity has risen since Sarah McGlothlin (sp?) did a cover of it on the wildly popular "I am Sam" soundtrack.
