I have had a lot of signal chains over the years. Now I have simplified but I am thinking it's the best I have ever had.

R Taylor style 3
Dazzo #70
RedEye preamp
Schertler Unico

The Schertler sounds better than my Bose.

Hi Toby,

My favorite set up so far (admittedly only have tried a couple of setups) is my Webber Roundbody with Schertler M-AG6 with S-mic and an Audio Technica Pro 70 Lav mic clipped to soundhole. Both running into Schertler Jam 100. Sounds amazing! I do use an Empress ParaEQ and Boss GE-7 for extra EQ and a MXR Reverb pedal.

Default What is your best guitar/pickup/amp combination?

I use a Martin DX1 or a Recording King R06, both with LR Baggs M80 pickups. I also us an LR Baggs Session DI preamp. If I use an amp instead of going directly into the PA, it's my Henriksen Bud. At low volumes the M80 sounds good right into the Bud, but if I'm pushing the volume, I need the Session DI's notch filter. The Session DI's saturation and EQ/compression sound pretty fantastic so I like to use it anyway.

A big deciding factor on getting the Henriksen Bud is that I drive a Mini Cooper. The Bud puts out an amazing amount of sound (including low frequencies) and yet it is tiny.

Charis Custom SJ > Dual Source (Chnl.1 DPA 4061 internal mic plus Chnl. 2 Element UST) > Pendulum SPS-1 > Chnl.1 > TC Electronics Vocal Harmonizer > Chnl. 2 > various chorus, flanging, delay pedals > two Shertler Unico Acoustic Guitar Amps on Poles set ten feet apart.

2002 Huss and Dalton Jumbo MC
Fishman Matrix pickup

In my opinion, H&D produces some of the finest acoustic guitars on the market today. While the K&K and Fishman pickups bring out their best qualities, all would be for nought if it weren't for that Schertler amplifier. I've never found an amp that can truly reproduce every nuance of an acoustic instrument like this one. Even when I plug my National Tri-cone (which has a Highlander pickup) in, you'd swear you were hearing that steel guitar unplugged with a mic in front of it.

I simply use the amp as a 3 channel mixer/pre-amp. Once I tweak the EQ and volume levels of the channels I simply send the signal via an XLR cable out to whatever PA happens to be in the house, telling the soundperson to start out with all the controls set to flat.

My sound checks usually never run more than 5 minutes... 8 tops.

The 10th commandment says "Thou shall not covet". Looking at your set-up makes this really hard.

For solo fingerstyle (flesh and nail), I play a Tippin OMT with an internal PUTW #54 SBT and Oktava MC-012HC external condenser microphone into a two channel preamp/eq/effects front end followed by a power amp and two speakers on sticks, in essence a mini-PA.

For about 15 years I've used this mini-PA configuration which is populated with a Pendulum SPS-1 preamp/eq/mixer, TC Electronics M3000 stereo effects unit, Bryston 3B-ST dual mono power amp and a pair of Daedalus W803 passive speakers. I have a Jam 150 for small situations.

Both my current systems are the best sounding I have used in my 45+ years of performing...

Either my Bose L1 Model II (w/ one subwoofer, the B1) or my AER Compact 60/2... usually, I run my Angus guitars through them; both of them have the Anthem SL pickup in them, 6 and 12 string... however, my K&K-equipped Goodall Grand Concert sounds GLORIOUS through either rig, as well!

I use the K&K PURE XLR preamp with the Goodall...

Tomorrow night I have a "budget" gig; one that I do mostly to stay in practise for performing, keep my chops up. For that gig, I take my Angus 6 string, a mic stand and a guitar stand, and my AER... and that's it! Easiest "load-in/load-out" I've ever had with my own gear... the AER case holds tuner, 2 20' cords (XLR and 1/4"), microphone, "tilt" stand for the AER and the power cord...

It's a great era for amplified acoustic guitar! Not to say that there could be better, more "life-like" sounding pickups (that are AFFORDABLE!), but we've got it pretty darned good right now!

Pono DS-20> L.R. Baggs M-80> Fender SFX amp. This is for my practice acoustic rig.
