Default Broadening my Horizons....

I''ve been concentrating on acoustic blues of late but I''ve decided to spread my wings a bit. Just started working on "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits.

I never had a clue that the whole song is finger picked, solo and all. I have been using Guitar 365 YouTube tutorials and they are great (not affiliated).

I'm about 25% in and actually enjoying this.

A change of pace seems to be the ticket.

justinguitar has a good tutorial on that song too:
part 1 of 4:

(the other parts deal with the lead fills and solos)

knopflers fingerstyle playing is pretty cool. I just watched an interview/documentary of him on you where he was talking about the guitars he's owned over the years. You got to see a bit of his right hand throughout.

I was thinking of working up Sultans of Swing for Mandolin. Somehow, I think it'll fit.

I''ve used Justin's lessons and he is very good. What I like about the 365 lessons is he teaches as if, and he does, perform the song as a solo act. He plays the chords, throws in the riffs then picks back up in wherever the chord progression might be after the riff is finished. I really like that approach....course, as I said Justin is very, very good.
