Default Live Streaming From The Indy 500 All Month

Here is the link for the live streaming from practice during the month of May.

https://www.indianapolismotorspeedwa...may-livestream

As I am typing this I am watching the on board cameras of Fernando Alonso, Ryan Hunter - Rey, Will Power, Alexander Rossi, Scott Dixon and others. There is also full camera coverage following the action on the track.

There are race announcers providing commentary of practice speeds etc.

Most of the cars are in the 219 MPH area this AM. This afternoon the cars are getting into the 221 range.

Live time and scoring are active for practice sessions. Here is the link to Timing & Scoring.

http://racecontrol.indycar.com/

There is a fixed Garage Cam in operation. Here is the link to the Gasoline Alley Cam.

https://www.indianapolismotorspeedwa...line-alley-cam

It is interesting that they still call it Gasoline Alley considering that Indy Cars run on Methanol. Of course tradition dictates that the term goes back to the time when the fuel of choice was gasoline. Except when Cummins entered a diesel powered car in 1952 and D*mn near won the race.

Cummins is an Indiana based company and they have had several diesel entries over the history of the even.

Then we better consider Kerosene or Jet Fuel for the turbine engine powered Indy Cars.

Very cool, mdunn! I'm an Indy fan too. Originally a Hoosier, went to college at Butler U. in Indy, and love that race. The practice days, time trials, and all of the tons of strategy that is involved in the race itself is so fun to follow. Some people think its boring, but I find it fascinating. The Speedway itself is very impressive and overwhelming. We AGFers are into "sound", and a track full of Indy cars doing 240 out of the 4th turn is one of the coolest sounds ever!

Former Hoosier here also, went to one back in the later '60's don't remember which year, I could look it up, but too lazy right now.

IIRC, it was the first year they ran the turbine engine, driven by Parnelli Jones.

The car was about silent from where we were, sounded like a vacuum cleaner going around .

EDIT..I just looked it up, it was 1967. He was leading with 3 laps to go, and had some small problem that cost him the race.

What a bummer! I have little free time this AM and I wanted to watch some of the practice runs at Indy, thanks to mdunn's handy link, and it's RAINING all over central Indiana! Oh well, that's just one of the variables that they have to deal with there. Maybe they'll get some practice in later on today...they need to build a DOME over the Speedway! Kidding...

Thanks for all the great pictures. I remember how bummed I was as a little kid when the turbine car broke with just a few laps left. $6 ball bearing or something like that let go.

Wow...Sebastien Bourdais' wreck at qualifying on Saturday was nasty. I don't know how you live thru something like that.

Last time I checked there were 2 Aussies ahead of Alonso.
Dixon and Will Power (Is that a cool name or what?)

Yeah, the Bourdais crash was awful, but I read last night that his status for the race was "unclear". C'mon, he's having surgery today for a fractured hip and pelvis, and it's unclear? That would be amazing if he competes.
I've gotta agree with Bruce, Will Power is a COOL name, but almost ALL of them have cool names! Sage, Helio, Simon, Fernando, Graham, Max, Marco, Juan Pablo, etc....all cooler than Mark. Blah. Thanks a lot, Mom and Dad...
And, how about my fellow Butler alum Ed Carpenter? Fastest time so far! Nice! Hope the Indiana weather for next Sunday is better than it has been lately. It should be a fun race.

Watching live here in Indy. Ready for the top 9 to go for the pole. Alonso is in, which is a great accomplishment, Honda looks like the engine to have.

That guy can only be a racing driver.

I worked in a video library, young guy customer in town was named Clayton Newberry, I told him he just had to be a NASCAR driver with name.
