K&K pure archtop?
Anybody out there got one of these? I'm thinking about putting one of these in my The Loar archtop. Not looking for a traditional archtop electric sound, want a more acoustic sound to accompany a mandolin. Any reviews?

I have one, but have been procrastinating about installing it. Now that I have a ToneDexter, it's time to give it a try!

I wired up a mag pu to the tip and dual head JJB piezo to the ring of a TRS jack. Lets me go with either or a blend through a Baggs mix pro.

I've had them in two of my guitars in the past, but I was ultimately disappointed and I uninstalled them. YMMV.
They're not bad per se. In my experience, they require a lot of EQ to sound good. Since my goal was to use them at open mics where the sound guys were uniformly ignorant of archtops (or sound?) they didn't sound good in the environment that I needed. Considering all the possibilities, now I either use a mic or a guitar with a floating PU. |

I thought it sounded good until I got a better guitar and realized that both it and the guitar sounded pretty cruddy.
I think the best way to amplify an acoustic archtop is using a clip-on lavalier microphone. Here's a whole article I wrote that talks about doing it at the end: http://www.campusfive.com/swingguita...hm-guitar.html
