Ibanez roadstar 1987. And I was 17! I've played many electrics since then including a strat for several years but this is the only one I've kept. Recently got the entire fretboard redone, filed, polished etc. smoothest neck ever!

My first Electric (after 15 Years of Playing Acoustics!) was a used 2007 Reverend Buckshot in Vintage Cream with a Tortoise Shell Pickgaurd.

Now I have been through 8 electrics.... but I still have the Reverend!

My first electric guitar had no name, and I'm sure the idea was to prevent the maker from taking the blame for the hunk o' junk. It was an import with four(!) incredibly thin-sounding pickups and an EXTRA-THIN switch guaranteed to turn the sucker into even more of an icepick. It also sported a nifty whammy that made keeping it in tune nearly impossible. I bought it for $25 off a pawn shop in 1971 and I bet the shop owner laughed all the way to the bank.

There, I told ya so. The strings were a good inch off the neck at the twelfth fret and literally drew blood until I bumped into a famous (at the time) guitarist who adjusted the truss rod, removed the neck and shimmed it, and gave me a decent action.

My second was a Japanese Epi Strat that later took the name of its most famous user, the Epiphone ET270 Cobain.

Ahhh, much better, thank you.

Bob

My very first guitar was a '58 Strat that I bought in '76 for $500. I couldn't play a note when I bought it, but I learned. Sold it in '02 on ebay for a very good sum. Best ROI I've ever made on anything. With some of the proceeds, I bought my Taylor 814ce and a '57 Strat reissue. Still have both. The '58 was a nice guitar, but I made the right decision.

My first guitar was a '59 Fender Jazzmaster that was well used in '63. Paid $105.00 with case at Manny's in NYC. Remember the price because I had to borrow the $5.00.

My first was an Egmond archtop that looked very like this one:

I think I paid about 16 pounds for it - I bought it with money I got for Christmas in 1970. Really not very good at all - but it got me started! I also bought a copy of Bert Weedon's 'Play in a Day' - an very popular instruction book of the time, although Bert's idea of just exactly what you could achieve in a day was rather different than my abilities would allow...

Great story Tom. Better to have something you can and want to play (814ce, Strat reissue) rather than have a relic sit ... unless of course you can afford it. . I've never owned a vintage guitar and with the prices for the '50s Strats and Les Pauls I most likely never will.

My parents bought me a Guild Starfire III for high school graduation in 1967. I sold it in the mid 1980's for $350 because I needed the cash. Big mistake.

Then came a Martin EM-18 similar to this one which I still have:

That first "real" guitar that you made your own; thank you for sharing yours! I'll never forget mine as well. They still make her, but I'll always have that soft spot and picture in my mind
