Nice thing you did for that young man, and I’m sure it was greatly appreciated by him. Nicely written, as well.

Thanks for the very meaningful story!

I hope you pass the story on to the recipient (if you haven't yet) because that will give it wings into the future. Good chance he will now feel part of something bigger, and rather than sell it off someday (when he has something better), he will consider how to make it a true gift - just as you did.

Right on man. It is always a good thing to plant musical seeds. The world needs more guitar players, not less, and your gesture is something I look on with admiration. On my behalf, thank you for doing this.

I also hope you shared the story of the guitar with him. Perhaps he will continue the tradition of this guitar by paying it forward someday.

Great story, terrific thing to do. There are lots of (sentimental, or simply no longer used) guitars out there gathering dust, I would wager, and I hope this inspires some more of those to find their way to aspiring musicians.

Similar but different... the drummer in my band told me he was interested in learning guitar. He and I have played together for more than 20 years. Combine that with his 60th birthday and the fact that he's leaving the Keys soon. I had a Breedlove Stage cedar-top concert guitar that I bought as a backup but never really played. And like many here, I have too many guitars anyway (no such thing!). For his birthday party, I gave him a gift bag full of strings, picks, and a capo, telling him he will eventually need them when he starts playing. Then, I pulled out the guitar I had stashed behind a wall and surprised everyone there. A few weeks later, he has made real progress on his open chords... and I don't think rhythm will be a problem for him!

And I think he's gained a real appreciation for guitarists who sing and play at the same time!

I hope to be as generous a human being. What a wonderful thing to have done for that young man. He, as you, will never forget this gesture of kindness and generosity and rightly so.
Nicely done my friend.
