I should add that I asked Ray about the double sides. The inner layer is Peruvian walnut, also known as nogal.

And here is the rosette:


He sketched out a few ideas from which I could choose the one I liked the best. Here's how this rosette looks as a sketch:


Here it is on the top, with the chosen materials. Spalted maple at 9:00, amboyna burl at 3:00:

Default Fretboard and neck...

And the neck and fretboard . . . neck is mahogany, fretboard is Brazilian. He's marked the 13th fret with an X.
