Default Claro Walnut/Redwood Build

Hey AGF Friends.....

We're happy to announce that Kyle and I have become sponsors on AGF - so we can post a little more about what we're up to. We now get to use our name Burner Guitars. (What a trip!)

Over the past few months we've been working on a Claro Walnut/Redwood guitar in our smaller body (LS Model) that is going to a great guy in Singapore when we are done with it.

I'll let the intended owner go public when he wants to

But for now I thought I'd show a few photos of where we're at:

I love the pattern on the back for this guitar

5-piece neck with a Walnut center strip

Fitting the Gotoh 510 tuners (with black knobs which will compliment the Ebony binding)

Burl Myrtle Rosette with Abalone ring on a tight-grained Sinker Redwood top

Using the new ZipFlex Abalone binding designed by Kevin Ryan. It was a delight to work with. It comes in 15" long strips - which is long enough that we used one piece for the rosette inset

The guitar is off to Joe White for finishing and the preliminary photos of the pore fill and sealer are amazing. I just LOVE how dark the Redwood gets - and it makes the Abalone purfling just POP!

If you want to see more photos of this build, the full gallery can be found HERE. (And yes.... I did glue myself to the cutaway at one point LOL)

I'll try to post more photos as I get them from Joe.

It's an exciting time for us as guitar builders!

Hey Paul! thanks for sponsoring. And this build is beautiful - agree 100% on how nice the redwood (and claro!) look after the pore filling! That just took a quantum leap forward on beauty!

Thanks for posting!

Oh - so you found the basement flood photos. It happened about 3 weeks ago on Dec. 10th. It was the 3rd "snow day" in a row so my wife was off work. We decided to go Christmas Shopping for a bit.

Left the house at 2:30 PM and came home around 5:45 PM.

A pipe going to an outdoor spigot (sillcock) had burst about 18" inside our home. It appears it was caused by air blowing into a dryer vent hose laying against it and causing it to freeze. We had some VERY cold days here with high winds and blizzard conditions.

The last few weeks have been "interesting" to say the least.

The good news is that it is covered by our homeowners insurance - and no major computer equipment, guitars or guitar builds were damaged. Had a couple pieces of wood out - and they got some water on them.

Drywall was cut out, carpets torn out, shelves and custom built-in cabinets were removed. Countertops were cut into pieces to remove. I have a "pod" in my driveway now with all my basement contents in it and one side of my garage is full of stuff also.

It has made for an interesting holiday season... but progress is being made and I hope to have my office back (I work from my home) in another couple weeks. The space also doubles as where we do some of the cleaner steps of our guitar building - so it has caused some delays there too - so we're excited to get our space back.

Look at me - I hijacked my own thread - LOL!

Hey Paul,

Glad that nothing critical was damaged...we have floods here, but not typically caused by freezing

Although the guitar building is slowed, given the beauty of this build it'll be wonderful when you folks are in full swing again

Hmm...did that get this thread back on track?

Aloha,

Hen

Beautiful guitar - Love the Florentine cutaway and the rosette, and the woods look amazing with the finish applied.

Beautiful woods + skilled hands = some great pieces of art.

It appears people are following the link to the full gallery of photos and seeing the initial finish photos of the guitar.

I guess I'd better put them here so others know what everyone is talking about.

Back of the guitar after pore filling and sanding sealer applied

Front after pore filling and sanding sealer - look at that Redwood!

That guitar is beautiful. I love claro walnut, it is my favourite tonewood visually and you guys have done an amazing job. I also like that neck.

One question, isn't Singapore a republic & not a part of China?

Looking good. I love that wood combo. Same as Petros Tunnel 13, which is quite possibly the most beautiful guitar I've seen. Nice rosette design too.

What's the outer wood on the neck, is that more redwood?

Coke_Zero, yes Singapore is actually a republic. Thanks for the comments on the guitar we are very happy with how it is moving along and can't wait to see it when it gets back from finish.

I have seen the Petros Tunnel 13 guitars they are beautiful with an awesome story behind them. The neck is mahogany on the outsides then maple with a walnut center strip.
