Default Breedlove - Presentation Series

I heard that the guy who makes Breedlove guitars is also involved with Taylor's Presentation series guitars... Can anybody confirm this?

That is what Mike Fazio told me the other day when I was at his store. Thos presentations sure are amazing.... I am not sure if he is some sort of owner or pioneer of the company or what though.

Hmmm, I work at Fazio's, so I will ask Mike about that! He has told me that Bob Taylor actually works on the PS series, but I haven't heard about Breedlove being a part of it.

Here's what I can remember:

Larry Breedlove worked for Taylor, then went out on his own to found Breedlove Guitars. Eventually, he sold the company to his brother and went back to work for Taylor.

I also understand that Bob checks out each PS.

Yep, sounds about right. I didn't realize that Larry sold his company to his brother.

Do you guys think that a Breedlove guitar would be close to "Presentation Series" quality?? I would find that hard to believe. I haven't really played many Breedloves

Well, might as well do my usual crumudgeon routine.

Define "quality". Is the Presentation series a "higher quality" guitar than a non-presentation series Taylor? Why? Same construction method as the non-presentation series. "Highest grade" woods referring to how the wood looks. Special inlays (does this make a guitar "better?"). Do these cosmetic upgrdes make a guitar "better"? What about how it sounds? How would you compare a Taylor Presentation series guitar (how much do they cost? Over 5K I'm sure) to a guitar built by Collings, SCGC, Goodall, or small/solo builders like Kevin Ryan, or a $3250 guitar built by David Flammang or Bruce Petros, who turn out less than 30 guitars a year?

Breedlove is known for their beautiful woods, top notch build quality, distinctive sound (not for everyone) and funky (yuuch!)headstock shape. Yes, they make a "quality"" guitar. There are LOTS of quality builders out there right now. Taylor is one of them.

"Larry B" as he is affectionately known around Taylor, designed the Gothic Vine inlay and many others.

Here's a (blurry) pic of a pic of the crew. Larry B is the guy with the guitar.

i know this should go into another section, but since we are talking about breedlove's, how are their guitars compared to taylor's?

and pricewise? i note that they a lower end series known as the atlas, and i think it might be manufactured in korea...

regards

The new Atlas series are Korean made. I have not had a chance to see or try one out, but they are supposed to be decent quality. As for the U.S. made Breedloves; the quality is outstanding. Every one I've seen has been perfectly constructed. It's difficult to compare them with Taylor's since the Breedlove has a different tone, hard to describe. I know I love both my Taylor and my Breedlove.

Hi Gaz,

Was trying the Atlas series at the local dealer today. Superb tone and construction considering that it's made in Korea. Would say that the sound is definitely different from any Taylor, but from the perspective of a Taylor fan, the sound is full yet crystal clear for the mahogany model that I tried (AC25/SM). Good value for the price. Maybe you could drop by Living Strings at Bras Basah when you get back to S'pore...
