Default Rainsong P12 questions...

Just picked one up used and have some questions.

Advertised as a 1 3/4 nut but measures a little smaller. 1.71 on my calipers. Was a smaller nut model made?

Best strings?

Unidirectional top? How would I know?

The top has been polished from satin to... well whatever it is now. Anyone here ever polish a satin top? Would like to make it look a little better. Back and sides are still satin.

Curious if anyone has ever painted one..? I would most likely only paint the top but a clear on the back and sides might look good.

Thanks

If I were you, I would just play the heck out of the guitar and see if it is worth the time and consideration you want to give to aesthetics.

This is a sweet instrument and if it plays out as you'd like, then by all means, give it your best. The CF guitars lend themselves to painting, they are a great, smooth, pallet.

Enjoy the process, thank you for posing interesting questions.

My WS Rainsong seems to prefer Elixir nano lights, not sure about the P12, but should be a good starting point. The unidirectional top does not show a "weave" pattern. Check out the pictures on the Rainsong web site and see if that helps. Congrats on a great guitar!

On several guitars I've measured with 1.75" nuts (officially) the actual string-to-string spacing at the nut is 1.5". Rainsongs, Taylors, and others. I doubt that there was a separate "narrow neck" model, as that would require another neck mold - quite an expensive move. I don't recall RS listing anything other than 1.75", even with the N2 neck.

I like Tomastik-Infeld Spectrum strings on my P12.

Thanks for the responses.

This guitar has sustain

Very lively, light and fun.

Has some bass to it and I think will try and get a little more bass out of it with a heavier gauge string.
