Default Yamaha FG335ii nut size

Hi all. I have an old Yamaha 335 FG335 ii that I want to get fixed up so I can give to my brother (to teach him). Unfortunately, the nut is broken off on the high E string. Is there a magical place I can go to in order to find the exact dimensions of this? I found a page for the FG335g (not ii) but would assume its the same: http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/...itars/796/9129

So, this lists the nut size as:
Nut Width- 43mm (1 11/16”)
Nut Material- Urea

I'm not really sure what urea stands for, but....is this the only dimension I need? Keep in mind I want a pre-slotted one. Do I need to know the height dimensions as well?

Would this one at Amazon work:

For $6.99, it is worth a try. Any nut you get you will probably need to be sanded down to get it to fit at the correct height.

You may want check out Bob Colosi's website (guitarsaddles.com). Although I think the nuts he sells are unslotted.

For vintage (60's & 70's) Yamaha FG's I use http://www.graphtech.com/products/pr...f-7388583e2387

It also opens the string spacing up to 1.44". You will have to sand the bottom to get the proper nut action.

Thanks. Something I don't get though. I measure my nut and have these for dimensions:
w = 4.75 mm
h = 8.89
l = 43 mm

I can't seem to find a width that matches.

The nut I listed above is only 0.13mm (0.005") thicker. You could just touch it on some sandpaper. It looks like your height (8.89mm) is higher than the PQ-6116-00 (8.35mm). That's a problem.

On second though, I think there's an error in their metric width conversion. The left hand version also says 11/32" thick also but it converts to 8.81mm. http://www.graphtech.com/products/br...9-02b4260dd895

I think you'll be fine with the PQ-6116-00. A little sanding will get it to fit. You can't expect a drop in.

I thought you typically sanded off the bottom though. Is it common to sand off the side (width)?

What ever it takes to make it fit. Or leave it slightly oversize.

If it was oversize it wouldn't fit in the notched gap though....

Sand the width. It would look worse if the nut was too narrow and left a gap. You're better off custom fitting it vs. buying something that's close.
