Default Tuners on a 1957 D28

I have an opportunity to buy a 1957 Martin D28. Someone unfortunately put some gold tone replacement tuners on this guitar. Whoever replaced tuners didn't even fill the screw holes. I'm sure some of you out there must know what the stock tuners on a D28 would have been in 1957. I keep looking for a birth year guitar. Sadly this is 3 years too young

"Tuners are the original large back unsigned Klusons, each with 5 stripes and small metal oval buttons"

I found 2 of them for sale, one at Dream Guitars and one at Mandolin Bros.
These seem to be the original tuners...

They were made by Kluson, often referred to as "waffle back" tuners. These are good replicas.

Don't pass up the opportunity for a great guitar because of tuners....Tuners don't give you vintage tone

Thanks everyone. As usual this forum is one of the most knowledgeable out there. Here is a link to a group of pictures of the D28. About 5 pictures into the sequence is a picture of the replacement tuners. By the way no affiliation with Guitarworks, but a great local guitar store.

I'd have to replace those Rotomatics pronto. They look so out of place on that guitar, but they are patent pending gold Rotomatics. They're worth something to someone who needs them. That could help offset the cost of the reproduction Klusons.

The bridge is a replacement too, but I'd leave it as-is if it's tight. I'm not crazy about the strap button location, but all in all, it looks like a pretty straight guitar just from a quick spin through the photos.

Thank goodness the original pick guard is there. Those early '57 guards are distinctive in shape and color, almost impossible to replace with anything even close to correct. Even by late '57 they were much darker.

Any comments on the price? $8500 it's a great sounding guitar by the way.

...8500 is maybe a bit on the high side...but they're hard to find and they're not making any more of em..... for my tastes thats a fine looking guitar....if it sounds as good as it looks it may be worth paying a premium to aquire it....
