Pics of 2008 fall limiteds
Here are some pictures I took earlier today at a Taylor factory tour:
First is a bunch of koa that was about to be sawn. The picture doesn't show it well, but there was some really pretty flamed figure: This should show that there's plenty of high quality Madagascar Rosewood available, for the time being. I spied out their Brazilian sets, which were behind a locked door. Not too many of those left, it appears. Here are four of the 50 Liberty Tree T-5s getting ready to be finished: Here are some of the 2008 fall limiteds, in both colobolo and koa. I think this limited edition is going to sell out very quickly: Finally, I learned something new today. Taylor puts RFID tags in their guitars to track them throughout the production process. The next time I change the strings on my guitar, I'm going to have to get out the mirror and see if/where my guitar has one... |

Did you see any more? What percentage of them would you estimate had sapwood in the tops? Did they give any idea when they'd ship? |

Yes, there was one other one. It also had lighter wood in the center, but not as much as the two middle ones in that picture. I'm guessing all of them are going to be pretty wildly figured like that. I didn't ask about a ship date. Normally guitars take about 10 days from the date they're assigned a serial number, so it could be soon. I'm not sure if Taylor wants to ship all of them out at once, though.

I think Cocobolo with the Koa binding is more attractive visually. Although I'm not a big fan of the wedge in the back. I'd prefer a thin strip down the middle or maybe no strip at all.....

Are you from Kansas? Just curious why you chose that state.
I suspect that the most valuable one in the future will be the one from Maryland (where this particular tree is from), followed by the other 12 original colonies. No clue as to the remaining states (though I suspect Texas and California will be high on the list). I wish I could see image of all the states and how their tops look . . . there's supposed to be eventually a webpage showing this, I believe. |

No, born, raised, and still live in So Calif. I got KS because it was the only pre-Civil War State available where I ordered, anyway.
Don't know the fate of MD, CA or TX.
