Default Rainsong CH-OM specs

Does anyone know what the string spacing at the bridge for the CH-OM is? I can't find it anywhere on Rainsong's web site.

Also, they list the tuners as 18:1 Gotoh. Are they 510's?

At $1500, these guitars are a great value, especially considering the other composite manufacturers seem to be raising prices substantially.

I've not played the OM, but have played the RS Parlor. I may have to procure one of the OM's if the string spacing is near what I want at the bridge. All the other specs are what I'm looking for, Short scale, 12 fret, cutaway, 1-3/4" nut.

My WS-1000 is already packed for my trip to Phoenix, so it isn't convenient to measure it. Your best bet is to call Ted at LA Guitar Sales (310-246-1933) if you don't get an answer here.

It is doubtful that Rainsong uses different spacing at the bridge, requiring different jigs and tooling for assembly. (I vaguely recall reading that different bridge spacing was NOT an option you could order. Taylor is similar in that respect). If the Parlor worked for you, then there is no reason to suspect the the OM won't be fine too.

I think the OM is a much more balanced guitar than the PA. The body on the parlor (for me) seems very light compared to the headstock and neck. The OM, having a lager lower bout helps balance the instrument.

My CH-PA and CH-WS are 2 3/16". I did end up putting plastic tuner buttons on my CH-PA (there are a couple of Taiwan sellers on eBay who stock the complete range of Gotoh parts including plastic buttons). The CH-PA is my main gigging and practicing guitar and I don't find it particularly neck heavy -- at least now.

My Shorty measures 2.195" so 10 thou bigger than 2 3/16"

Pretty sure all Rainsong bridges are the same.

Thanks for measuring the bridge for me. I was hoping they were a bit wider string spacing. I'd prefer 2-5/16" or maybe 2-1/4".

Musician's Friend has a CH-OM open box, described as "mint condition" includes MFG warranty at $1,200. I'd leap on it, but the string spacing is the same as my L13.

Don't buy the used CH-OM!!! I almost made that mistake. MF is running a 15% off sale. It's only $75 more for a Brand New CH-OM.

Thanks BT. I noticed that too. The price is what initially attracted me, but the CH-OM has the same string spacing at the bridge as my L13, so I'm not a buyer.

The only "standard" composite I've been able to find with the specs close to what I'm looking for is the Journey RT-660. It's a short scale, 12 fret, OO size with a 1-3/4" nut, and 2-1/4" at the bridge. I'd really prefer 2-5/16" at the bridge, and I haven't seen a lot of reviews or videos of this guitar. The price is decent though, at $1,200 street.

I checked with Emerald and Blackbird on customizing an X20, or a Savoy, and either one would have been over $3,000. While I really like having the option to customize, it is just too much additional money to justify what is essentially a fingerstyle technique issue I am trying to buy a solution to.

Wait a minute; I could try practicing! On second thought, naaa. That'd be stupid.

Thanks for the referral Jerry. I know about Ted from LAG, as I purchased my Lucky 13 from him, and another guitar that I returned.

I've had consistently good transactions with Musicians Friend, Elderly, and here locally in Seattle a very nice store called Dusty Strings. Those guys are my go to's, and if they don't carry what I'm looking for, I check the MFR's web site to find dealers who carry their products. If any of my go-to's were to treat me poorly, I wouldn't do business with them anymore, and neither would I recommend them.

I have a feeling that if one can talk MF into applying the 15% off a new CH-OM then they will also do so on the open box.

So far I have resisted trying this on a CH-PA. (if MF had it with the factory hard case instead of the Boulder Gig bag I'd have probably succumbed already)

MF carries a Gator 3/4 case, that they will also discount for their sales, which just fits the CH-PA (I mean really just fits!). This is how it looks:

Since I have more money than common sense I recently upgraded to a TKL 8975...

You chose well Kemosabe. Option 2 was the right choice!
