60yrs but stopped when kids came so you might call that 50yrs. It doesnt matter if its been 6 or 60, the guitar has been a companion and counselor.

1978, 7th grade, started on classical guitar. Got my first electric in 1979, then my second (and current) electric in 1980. First steel-string acoustic was a Penco 12-string around about 1985, and I've had a variety of other acoustics over the years. Picked up bass in the mid 90's, and mandolin just a few years ago. I play a lot now, nearly every day, but there was a long gap from about '00 to '15 when I didn't play hardly at all, and before that guitar was life for many years. So, "how long ya been playin?" can be a complicated question.

1970ish, 47 years of playing around with the guitar. Not sure if I play it...or it plays me. Mostly for my own enjoyment and have been on again, off again..life happens. Started playing around with the mandolin around 1998, pretty much the same relationship. Love them both though.

Started learning some songs in high school and college (late 80’s) and pretty much stagnated for the next 20-25 years. Been taking it a little more seriously (gigging, bar band, weddings, etc) the past 6-8 years.

Not quite 52 years ago.
Half a century and change? How did I get so old?

About 40 years off and on. Wish it had been more "on" than "off"?

I've known how to play since the mid 60's, took a couple decades off and have been back at it for about 10 years. Today....about 2 hours!

1974 was the first year I touched a guitar but I've only been playing for the last couple years; my idea of playing, anyway.
