I think I am going to craft one from wood. Portability not an issue. Any tips/tricks for securing pedals to the board? Someone told me they use 3M Dual Lock rather than velcro. Read you can attach little squares even using baseplate screws on pedals and avoid using the adhesive. I guess if will bond to velcro as well.
I was looking at the bottoms of mine and one has 4 rubber feet. Thinking they may need to come off? Any patch cable brands you guys are partial to? Need a couple so I am considering all options with the board project. Size wise I am going to give myself room to grow, within reason...

I got pre made Planet Waves cables (as per the photo in my other reply) , which is something I would not do again. They work fine but the plugs are too bulky .. If and when I I get any more pedals . I am going to get one of the DIY custom patch cable kits , with low profile right angle, solderless plugs.

To each his own, but I found that I saved no money, and gave up lots of peace of mind, using the DIY cables. |

I picked up some low profile cables. A bit pricey but I think they will work well.
Got a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus used in great shape for about 40% below new and a fantastic price on a Boss TU-3. I didn’t have a tuner pedal. It’s fun finding deals. They are out there. I was oblivious to the fact I could power several pedals off the tuner if I ever need it.

Pedal Boards
This is so true!!!!!
You said you had 4 - 5 pedals that you use. You forgot one word, "now"! Keep the rabbit theory in the back of your mind! Pretty soon you went from 4-5 pedals to an addition on the house! Worse than any drug! If you're making your own pedal board you just as well get a 4'x 8' sheet of plywood now and get it over with!

Cut a hole in the middle of that ply wood so I can be surrounded! Perfect!
Having someone into woodworking throw it together and custom paint it for next to nothing. I have room for 8 or maybe another if they are all smaller. With velcro I can change them out if it comes to that! They are colorful, fun and relatively affordable. I see how it gets dangerous!

I use these. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Steel-Shelf/3343876 They are like $15. I use zip ties to hold the pedals on and all wiring is hidden underneath.

Pedal board help
I play electric and acoustic and use the same pedalboard for both so I would recommend using a variation of my setup. There is a good reason that gigging guitarists have pedalboards that require nothing more than power and guitar cord connections to work. There are plenty of inexpensive pedal boards and isolated power supplies available (check eBay - Donner DB2 Pedalboard & Case plus Mosky B5L0 Power Supply for $60). Wire, velcro and cable tie everything down and test, test, test. Read the instructions for the pedals as their positioning can affect their performance. I recommend that the last pedals are your Looper followed by the Noise Suppressor (read instructions, correct cabling is very important). My first pedal is a Guitar Tuner which is connected to a Line6 receiver (transmitter on the guitar). I’m a BOSS pedal fan based on their quality, variety and their cable connections line up! I use straight male/male connectors to connect most of them. Otherwise I use short 90 degree pedalboard cables. The power supplies (main and backup) are mounted to the underside of the pedalboard. All of the wiring is tied down using wire ties. My setup has a 6ft guitar cord and 6ft power cord coming off it so final connections are simple. Always bring (or mount) a backup power supply and carry extra cables. The most important thing is NEVER forget Murphy’s Law.

Pedal board help
OMG - What do you feed those wiley wabbits? Does your foot have glasses to see what it’s doing? And I thought I was insane with ten pedals, two foot switches and a wireless receiver for both acoustic and electric. Nice wiring job. Did you install redundant power supplies on the bottom of the pedalboards?

I don’t run but more than a couple pedals at a time. Just been running one power supply but probably should add another. Rabbits eat good at our house! And seem to be prolific!

Here’s my electric guitar pedal setup. I have a six foot power and guitar cord connected to the pedalboard making for fast setup. The Line6 receiver (on the bottom) keeps my guitar wireless.

Follow up!:
I got hooked up with a guy who makes pedal boards and for a super reasonable price he made me a great looking one. The top wood he torched and then coated. The base he painted my favorite color, which is green. It’s about 30 inches long so it can hold a bunch, and my power supply is mounted underneath. Really enjoying the new organization. I for some reason stink at posting pics with a good outcome or I’d add one. I did pay for some low profile Lava cables and that has worked out great. Pedals are definitely a lot closer to each other than they were with my cheap cables before.

Check out the Acoustic Amplification boards thread "Build You Own Pedalboard For $60". It shows how to put together a great pedalboard for low bucks including a power supply. You really need velcroed pedals if you don't want connection problems caused by floating pedals.
