LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI TESTS: MARTIN GPC-18E/Aura VT Enhance
Well, finally after thinking about it for a long time, I ordered an LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI and tried it out for the first time today. First up was my Martin GPC-18E with its onboard Aura VT Enhance pickup/preamp system, which I ran into the Session DI, and from there into my Line 6 L2t Active PA Speaker with all EQ on it set flat. I adjusted the gain levels of all devices in the signal chain to just briefly blip RED on the loudest guitar passages.
Playing a musical hodge-podge of song fragments with a flatpick, I kind of like what the Session DI does for the Martin's Aura VT Enhance system, which generally, without the Session DI, sounds just passable to my ears. I can hear what the Session DI's SATURATE knob does but find I can hear some increasing distortion if I run it more than 9 o'clock. The COMPRESSION EQ knob sounded best at about 10 o'clock. Those were the simultaneous positions for the knobs that gave me some of what the Session DI can offer without sounding obtrusive. Overall, it improved the amplified tone of the Martin GPC-18E. Based on what it did for the Martin GPC-18E with Aura VT Enhance, I could take or leave the LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI.

LR BAGGS SESSION ACOUSTIC DI TESTS: MARTIN DREADNOUGHT JUN0IOR/B-BAND A1.2N-1470
The second guitar I played through the LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI was my new Martin D Jr into which I've just installed a B-Band A1.2N-1470 pickup/preamp system. I'm really pleased how this guitar sounds amplified with just the B-Band system alone. Plugging into the LR Baggs Session DI enabled me to achieve an even richer sound as I was able to turn both the SATURATE knob and COMPRESSION EQ knob to 11 o'clock with little or any noticeable distortion. It seems the Session DI is more compatible with some pickup/preamp systems than others as the Martin D Jr rendered a better amplified tone through the Session DI than the Martin GPC-18E. Based on its performance with the Martin D Jr with B-Band A1.2N-1470, I'd keep the LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI.
Stay tuned, more guitars to come to be tested with LR Baggs Session Acoustic DI.
