I've always admired Mike Baranik's guitars, from Healdsburg 2001 onward. But I stopped in at TAMCO this past spring and played one of his guitars in Manchinga/Sitka and it was to my ears the most luminous instrument in the store, with possible exception of a Claxton. Mike was always an excellent builder, but it was truly startling how much he had raised his game. And I say this as someone who never cared much for Sitka--this guitar was sparkling and transparent beyond belief.
