I sold the few others I had after buying mine. It's now an only child.

Individual guitar thing I'd guess. I've noticed a lot of volume variability in the J-45's I've played (dozens), and had the exact opposite experience at the San Mateo GC where they have (or had) one of both. The J-35 was louder. Not just brighter, which it was as well, but more volume, response and headroom.

The New J-35’s are excellent guitars and,seem to be under the radar .
They are tone and volume banjo killers that don’t get the credit they deserve IMO....
