Default NGD- Rainsong APLE

Bill - you're reading the tape measure wrong. Your "2-1/4" is actually 2-3/8, and your "2-1/8" is actually 2-1/4.

BillDuck is right, and this also confirms what Ashvin said on this very forum some time back. I was curious and went back to measure with a much more accurate device. I also took greater care in getting closer to the maximum spread just before the break angle, and rested the edge of the ruler perfectly in line with the high E.

This is what I see now- dead on with what Ashvin and BillDuck are saying. What I'm seeing is just a hair shy of 2 3/16, or 3/32 short of 2 1/4.

Ugh I was looking at the pic on my phone, and didn't see the little space at the end BillDuck, I'm with ya now. Hmmm, curious...

Hey Bill, just wanted you to note the research I performed by measuring my own RainSong (now that I have it). The Acoustic Guitar review is actually inaccurate, which is a nice way of saying "wrong". It would be splitting hairs in normal circumstances but since we are talking about the precision of an instrument, 3/32 less than 2 1/4 at the nut might be significant to many.
