Default Fender vi

Been playing bass on worship team this year off and on and my muse was "I wonder if a Fender VI would be cool or not" So I bought one for $349.99 on line no gig bag just a box. Showed up with some very minor finish damage and MF gave me a $50 credit which bought me a nice gig bag. Played it at Friday night practice and Sunday church where I play every week. What a blast. Go from traditional bass lines to chords to leads to fills to traditional bass with no effort and seamless stream of ideas. Who would have thought $349.99 could buy so much fun. I am blown away by this bass guitar. Check them out if you get the itch.

Six string basses can be powerful tools in the right hands. One of our bassists had one, and having the ability play a B under an Em chord, or hit the low D when we played in D, made for some interesting harmonies on stage.

Few people did it as well as this guy:

TMK the prototypes went to Neil Levang and Buddy Merrill, Lawrence Welk's guitarists, and first appeared on his 1961 million-seller "Calcutta" - here's a clip from '64 with Neil on Bass VI:

Gotta get a set of flatwounds on there for some real vintage mojo...

Pitner, timely post. I just bought a VI neck to put on a John Mayer strat with a warped neck. It is the 30 In. scale and I was originally going to convert it to a baritone but being a bassist, the VI appeals more to me and I know it will be very usable in my band environment and add some interesting things on a few songs. --Darwin

Pitner, others have done this and it works great. It will be a while before I do this but I will let you know. I was originally planing on doing a baritone conversion but this appeals more to me. --Darwin

I played the Fender VI for music practice last night and took a solo break just fooling around. Really sounder pretty good and will likely take a solo in that song on Sunday. Amazingly fun to play and really has taught me to understand the lower freq's much better.
