2014 Poll: Best Guitar for Rhythm Accompaniment of Vocals
The poll from a couple years ago had a somewhat odd selection of Martins, with the mainstream HD-28, but the seldom seen 000-18 and J-40 models also. Radically different guitars, but all Gibsons being J models. I'll keep as is. Collings guitars just don't have the model recognition in the general population so I'll stay with what was used before.
I have listed a more realistic selection of 3 Martin dreads. |

There is no "best" ANYTHING when it comes to subjective things like this. Oh well...I suppose there's no harm in asking the question.

D-28
It's the best guitar for anyone playing any style of music ever.

It is true that what is best for you may not necessarily be best for the next guy. But it is a somewhat universally, though not officially, recognized notion that the Gibson J-45 is the singer-songwriter guitar......because it is easier to sing over. YMMV
I own the HD-28, J-45, J-200, and some others. I can sing with any of them. However, it is much easier to sing with the J-45 than all the rest. It seems that the J-45 "leaves" a space for you vocal in the frequency range. Again, this is simply MY opinion and not meant to be stated as fact nor any de facto standard opinion.

I don't go for that, though, not being a D-35 fan... But it is interesting and informative to see so much love here for the J-45. Thanks, Dave |

J45 is pretty good but d28 is much better for me. I sold my j45 to buy a d28. I sold the j45 because I hated the neck profile, but I'm glad I did because I find my d28 to be superior in every way.
I've said this before somewhere, mahogany b/s guitars make me feeling sort of naked when I'm singing. When I'm singing with my d28, it's right there with me filling in the bass and for some reason gives me more confidence I hope all that gibberish made sense Last edited by Teleman52; 06-08-2014 at 09:27 PM. |

Dave, for me it is the Gibson Hummingbird, by at least a furlong. But it's not on your list, so I voted for the J-45. My J-45 is quite different from my Hummingbird, but stilll my #2 choice.

Kind of surprised you left the venerable Martin D-35 off your list kydave. It tops my list for sure.

I've played several of these, and each one was really, really nice. I like them much better than the 2008 HD-28 I used to own. Of course, this is for my voice and my style. |

Ah the voice of dissent.
As have never tried a single guitar on that list I am automatically excluded.. except perhaps that I make a good part of my living singing and playing. Therefore my vote goes to my guitar, my main live animal the Tak TAN46c which does everything I have ever asked of it and never missed a beat. Cant ask more than that I reckon. Kris

I am surprised the poll doesn't include the Hummingbird. My vote would be Bird 1, J45 2.

I think anyone who would vote for any instrument other than a Gibson Dread for this purpose would probably drink their own bathwater.
