An Alvarez Baritone lefty. I thought I’d take it on trips when traveling by car and wanted a cheaper guitar I wouldn’t worry about getting damaged. After playing it a couple of times, changing strings and trying again, I’ve been too disappointed to even get it out of the case for over three years.

A Jellyfish pick rake:

(Horrible device!)

An EBow:

(Interesting, but not very practical)

Feedback Eliminator Processor:
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...ance-processor
(Didnt work very well for us)

How would you like to trade me that phobia or maybe just rent it out? As for music-related things I bought and didn't use, just watch the local Craigslist and AGF Classifieds....

i also play harps, yeah harps like the angles play not the harps the devils play. i bought a fancy peterson tuner which can be programed to tune to alternate intonations, mean tempered tuning, medieval true tuning to one key only, arabic scales, turkish, georgan scales, you name it. i have never figured out the instructions. sigh

I think this is the site I was referring to. http://leftyfretz.com/start-here/ It's mission is misguided. If anything it just add one more unnecessary roadblock to overcome.

How do you turn rightly chord charts around? I just imagine the chord from the back side of the neck, and then it's Easy Peasy.

More head scratcher stuff:
  • R/H scissors with L/H handles. R/H handles aren't the problem. R/H scissors cut on the wrong side of the line for a Lefty.
  • L/H wired pots. Fender's nifty trick is to wire R/H audio taper pots L/H making the slope almost unusable. Since 99.99% of the volume pots in the world are R/H (like even my L/H SG), just wire all the guitars that way. We can adapt.

Default What's the guitar-related thing you bought and never used?

Korg KR mini programmable drum machine with built in speaker. Great idea. But the manual is useless and the only YouTube videos are even more confounding.

Focusrite Scarlett Studio. (May it rot!)

I'd been using a little Tascam 8 track DP 008EX, but all my recordings sounded like they were recorded in the kitchen, so I bought a Scarlett Studio pack. Two days later (literally) I was still trying to get the software installed on my laptop. I've never encountered such a ludicrously convoluted method of alienating the user in all my life.

But eventually, against all odds, I did get it installed, and some days later I figured out how to make a simple recording. At this point I realised two things:

1. It was so much easier, so very much easier, so much friendlier, to use the Tascam.
2. The Scarlett recordings were no better. They still sounded as if they were recorded in the kitchen.

That's when I realised that my recordings sounded as if they were recorded in the kitchen because ... yes, I was recording them in the kitchen. So the horrible Scarlett Studio went back in its box and has lived unopened and ignored in a cupboard somewhere ever since. (That'll teach it a lesson!) And I went back to the Tascam. And I learned to live with the fact that my recordings sound like they're recorded in a kitchen.

peterson stroboclip.
tonewood amp.... think george forman grill
thalia capo
blue chip picks. (nice pick but fear losing it ($35)so use is minimal)
pedals out the wazoo like a cajokick. thought it was a good idea.
picks and strings.
loopers ( i still think KT Tunstall is cute)
I have tried my best to buy things guitar
related used on ebay. So i can resell them
later when they don't peg on my holy grail meter.
I do try to get rid of stuff to get money to buy other stuff ha..

Enjoyed your story, amusingly told. Must have a go with my Zoom R8, had it 3 years, never used it...

But seriously, a manual tuner winder I bought threatened to lacerate headstocks, so it goes unused.
Oh yeah, I might still have one of those somewhere. It worked fine, I suppose, but it really didn't seem to save me much time and it did seem like the sort of thing that might slip and scratch things up a bit. Not the biggest risk in the world but I didn't see the benefit. Not all that much of a waste, either, as it didn't cost that much.

Maybe one of these days I'll buy a better one. Maybe not.
