Default Your Favorite Strings on Your Rainsong

Getting ready for a string change to put a full set of mediums on. I cannot find the thread, but I think many of you like the Elixir Nano PBs? I know the John Pearse also come strongly recommended.

Thanks for your input!

Jon,

There seems to be a lot of folks that like the Nano PBs for the Rainsongs. I think I'll get some mediums and give them a try. Thanks for the input.

Default Your Favorite Strings on Your Rainsong

Lisa,

I currently have elixir PB light/mediums on my limited Shorty. I really like them. I play quite a bit in open tunings, and the extra tension on the bass strings helps. The light/mediums are basically bluegrass gauge, with medium bass strings and light treble strings.

I have been traveling the last 5 weeks, but I plan to put up a short recording of the strings when I have a few minutes.

If you get mediums, I'd love to hear how they sound.

I tried a set of EB Acoustic Slinky Coated Titanium and they were good, low e string seemed a bit shy and slightly muffled compared to what I'm used to. Then I went for a set of Cleartone Treated PB's and didn't care for them, definitely a lot more squeaking noise from my fingers. May try some others in the future but for now I'm going back to Elixir Nano PB's, they remain my favorite. (all 12's btw)

FWIW, the Cleartone strings claim to not feel like coated strings but I can't say that I really feel the coating on any treated strings. While I do get much more life out of treated strings, less string noise is just as big of a plus for me. I've just come to expect it from my strings.

After trying tons of strings on the WS1000 (When I owned it) I thought that the Nano PB's sounded the best overall.

The Light Med. is a great suggestion unless you really love Med. all the way across. To me they give you that meaty tone where you want it but still leave the higher strings a touch lighter making it easy to bend if you any of that?

Lisa - After trying a bunch of different brands over the past years, I haven't found any I like better than the John Pearse PB strings. I prefer lights on my Rainsong H-DR1100N2, the "new mediums" also sounded good.

Just my $0.02

Down a half step on that JM1000. Elixirs trying to decide between PB and 80/20. But Elixirs just like Carbon.

I just installed the Elixir Nanoweb mediums on my Shorty. Now that the strings have settled in, I cannot believe what a difference. Warm, very mellow tone. I highly recommend them!

Maybe I should try mediums on my JM1000? Just so against what I normally do?

Are they Phosphor Bronze, or 80/20?

Sorry to Necro a thread but I wanted to see what Lisa's thoughts are now years later.

I just through on some Elixir PB Nano Mediums as well, though mostly because I have a set laying around and found the to sound pretty nice.

Lisa, are you still using these strings? Have you transitioned to medium lights?
