Default What do you think the most iconic acoustic guitar is?

In the world of electric guitar, it's pretty easy to name the legends- Jimi's white Strat, Lucille, etc..

Just for fun I was wondering what you all thought might be the equivalents in the acoustic guitar world. I'm thinking about guitars that are not only widely recognized, but are also guitars that a true player would love to own and play because of its prized sound. I can think of several worthy candidates, but I'll kick it off with one: Tony Rice's D-28 that previously belonged to Clarence White.

Other suggestions?

I guess your criteria rules out Willie Nelson's "Trigger", cause it's not something everyone would like to own. But it sure is iconic and almost instantly recognizable, even when Willie isn't in the picture.

Hmmm. I’d like to own it.

Robert Johnson's Gibson L1 is pretty important if you can get past it being possessed.

Perhaps not the most iconic but Johnny Cash's black Martin D-35 comes to mind. He even played it in an episode of Columbo (which was a great episode).

Maybelle Carter's Gibson L5 archtop comes to mind as far as acoustics go.

The only one I think of was mentioned in the OP, Tony Rice and Clarence White's D-28.

I [I]knew[I] Trigger would be one of the first mentioned!

Great call on Mother Maybelle- I hadn't thought of that one, but definitely a guitar that meets the conditions. Maybe one of the best chording guitars ever?

For folks my age, The Kingston Trio ignited the acoustic folk boom of the 60s and made the Martin D-28 an object of lust for every wannabe picker.

I'm only 28. So when I think of acoustics I don't think of what guitar but when. Like Cobain's acoustic set on MTV.
