Default Info on resonably priced archtops

Hey all,
Been an acoustic player all my life,am ready to learn new music and get a new guitar to play it! Looking for a reasonably priced archtop- obviously Gibson is OUT! Anyone here play a Ibanez or Epiphone? Just need a P90 at the neck for jazz sound.
Look forward to your answers,
Jan

Got mine on Amazon for a tad over $600 about two years ago and I can't say enough good things about it...

Another vote for the Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin - I own a Kingpin II (with 2 P90's), but it sounds like you'd like the Kingpin - with one P90 at the neck...

Enjoy!

You can get used Gibsons at fairly reasonable prices, not an L5, but useable. They recently offered an ES-165 Herb Ellis and these can be had at lower prices as well.

For imports, Peerless are supposed to be pretty good and you might look for a Korean Epiphone Howard Roberts.

Hey all,
By affordable I am trying to keep it under $1000 more or less. I read the Korean instruments are very good and Eastman is supposedly top notch.I had an Epiphone acoustic/electric PR6E that was beautiful.I still have the 25watt amp I bought with it;guitar was sold.It was solid spruce over maple. I think I would like a maple body. There is a small local guitar store in Cotati I am going to visit and play a few they have on the wall.I'll let you know!

try a wtb for an eastman or loar. You could get some bites there. Both have all solid offerings that are well spoken of here. I have an all acoustic Eastman archtop which sounds and plays really good. Paid only a couple hundred north of a grand for it new.

If I were looking in your price range, Eastman would be at the top of my list. I've owned three Eastman archtops now, and they've all been very good instruments. If you're going for a plugged in jazz tone (which it sounds like you are), you could get an AR371 for around $600 and swap the humbucker out for a humbucker-sized P90. Something like the pickup on the bottom of this page:

http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/mer...en=p90-pickups

You would still come in a few hundred dollars under your $1K limit, and I can't imagine you wouldn't be thrilled. I bought the AR371 below new and absolutely adored it. It sounded great, felt great, and was set up very nicely. I only sold it because a "grail" type guitar became available shortly after buying it, and I needed to sell some gear to make the purchase. I would own another in a heartbeat.

Happy hunting!

One other thought: I would see if you can find a used D'Angelico EX-59. I've never personally played one, but they look fantastic and they seem to get good reviews. P90's at the neck and bridge, so it should meet your criteria. They're around $1,450 new, but you might be able to find a deal, or a used one floating around.

Best of luck!

Reasonably priced, P90 at neck, Kingpin is your answer.

+ 1 on the Eastmans.
My Gibson ES 165 has not come out of it's case since I got an Eastman John Pisano.
