Billy Jenkins.
One of his "Big Fight Nights" was the most entertaining and involving (and even educational) jazz gig I've ever seen. Unfortunately that series of events was all in the pre-youtube era, and certainly never made it to TV or video. (Which - for "free jazz" - is as a gig should be. A once-only experience.) From spoof free jazz he moved into a highly idiosyncratic take on his first love, the blues, which is pretty much where he still is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64kiOKdLHRo To be honest his voice isn't much. And he doesn't let rip on guitar until around 5:20 (but when he does - ). He has a long-standing reputation on the UK jazz scene (avant garde wing) and attracts good musicians in his bands. Most of the big names in UK jazz have played with him at some time. Mind you, it's possible you need to come from South-East London (and/or have slightly cynical attitude to the jazz scene) to get it... Obviously if you're from "Sahf London", you can't be a real bluesman; your tongue needs to be firmly in your cheek...
