American Shure SM58 vs Knockoff Radioshack "SM58"
I've been using a Radioshack version of the SM58 for a long time feeling as though I was using a lesser piece of equipment. It cost less than half as much as the Shure. I finally managed to get my hands on a Shure sm58 and I figured I'd do a shoot out.
So, which is better? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgwXs...ature=youtu.be The video quality is only 420, even though I made sure the audio was full quality. But if you prefer here's the original file compressed to a 320 mp3. http://www.zachfichterstudios.com/me...vs%20Shure.mp3

No way I can decipher a clear difference. You may have started a run on RShack mic's!

One big difference is the Shure will last through 800 practice sessions at a punk rock shared jam space, 387 pub nights and 3 world tours....
The RS cheapo knockoff will last about as long as "Roseanne's Nuts" ...... http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/09/22/ro...uts-cancelled/ I've seen soooo many SM57 and 58 that have literally been beatin to a pulp with drumsticks and Roger Daltry wannbee's and still work day in day out.

Yeah that is odd..............
J/K'din' Depends on the bands/jam space were talkin' here too. I worked with alot of punk and metal bands in the past as an engineer/producer/tech etc...etc.. here in Vancouver BC waaaaaaaay back in the 80's and 90's. More than just one of those band I've worked with in the studio and live sound , pretty much saw anything on stage as an instrument, mics included. Back then almost every bar I did live sound in had a box full of 57's and 58's...many of them looked like hell but worked. Those days were ubber crazy, punk/metal kinda days ..... I have since.....er 'mellowed' Hehehe.....here is one of those bands...... Sorry your gonna love this or hate this but it will leave a scar either way...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmY1sZMzyG8 btw the guitar player made all the 'little' guitars, they used 'em live too. There were, and always have been, cheap knock off's from many mfgs. but still every bar owner and rehearsal space owner I knew bought Shures 'cause they would last. I'm sure your mic will last for 'yrs , I dont really mean to knock it or anything. They do sound similar.
