I bought a DY74C in the early 80's and used it for many years. I always felt it was the best of the Japanese makers around at that time. It finally went in trade to get my first good American acoustic, a Mossman. It was far superior to the DY74C but cost a lot more as well.

If you buy an Alvarez Yairi, you won't be sorry.

I agree, I own two and have played many Yairi's over the years
and never played a bad one. I always get compliments with my DY62C.

Daveyo, I'm sure you will really like this guitar...

I traded a DY-45 for my DY-74. It was an internet leap of faith, and I was a bit concerned when the DY-74 arrived because it was pretty dinged up, more than I expected; and my DY-45 was in excellent shape, so I was thinking that I got screwed on the deal.

However, I tuned it up and strummed a chord and was mesmerized. That beat-up guitar sounded like a million bucks, and had a big ol' chunky neck that I loved immediately. And the guy had thrown in a nice new case. So I polished it up and threw on a new set of Elixirs and eventually installed a K&K pickup, and that guitar remains to this day one of my favorites. It's the one I take on vacation, as I don't have to worry about dings/dents.

Also, it records really well. It has a very sweet tone, fairly bright but nicely balanced across the six strings. It's a great guitar. A friend of mine played it once and liked it so much that he bought himself one (but mine sounds better than his). It strums nicely, and fingerpicks just as well, nothing it can't do.

A photographer friend of mine saw it and wanted to use it for his web site. The link is below if you want to check it out, it's the only acoustic guitar you see there. (Also, the Telecaster is mine as well.)

Anyway, congrats on your new one, I'll bet you'll like it!
