I love what Blackbird is doing with Ekoa. As much as I love carbon fiber guitars, I've always wished the materials were greener.

I would, but it’s going to take a whole other thread if I can’t control the GAS I’m feeling.

Jon, that photo isn't helping to dispel the slanderous rumors.

For me, it's all about the tone when it comes to Ekoa, but the fact that they are more green, is definitely a nice bonus.

Just curious...why does the ekoa top of the Savoy appear like a wood grain, whereas the back and sides appear like burlap? I’m not saying it overly matters, I’d just like to know.

Hi Tom,

The soundboard, which is actually double top construction, uses unidirectional material, while the back sides used the cross weave pattern. For esthetic reasons Joe is now using unidirectional material on the entire guitar.

Here is what the Savoy looks like now:

Ted,
Is there a difference in sound with the unidirectional material on the back and sides of the Savoy? I have the original back and sides.

Hi Barb,

I played several side by side and there is no tonal difference. I have the first one shipped from Frisco, which is like yours, and I've found no reason to move to a newer one.

Thanks Ted. I like the unidirectional look a lot better.
