hey, thanks for that. Yes, they're a lot closer than I thought.
I still prefer the lucky size, shape and bridge, but I'm quite keen on the Ekoa material.

The Savoy and Lucky 13 are definitely different feeling in size and shape. They sit differently in your lap. I have both and enjoy both of them very much.

I agree. I would have to say the L13 is more comfortable in your lap then the savoy. I have bigger then average thighs and sometimes it feels as though the savoy wants to slip a little to the right off my thigh. In a perfect world I too would have both. Personally I would just play the savoy 98 prcnt to the L13 2 prcnt.

I hope that the reason Blackbird is holding off carbon production is because they have a new Ekoa guitar they are working on for namm. Pure speculation, but fun to dream.

I wonder if other organic materials might have the same potential as Ekoa. For example, I wonder how a composite cotton guitar might sound/look. UIt looks like Joe has opened a big door on possible guitar mediums.

I can see it now...composite acoustic guitars made from wool/tweed, cotton, burlap (I did find an image of a Tele made of burlap). My mother was a lifelong crocheter, some of which she starched as rigid artistic pieces. Heck, I should’ve asked her to crochet me a guitar!

I think ekoa is an interesting plant-based material. It is made form flax fibers and a "plant based" resin. The manufacturer's website has nice info about it.

One thing I am trying to understand is how the damping plays into this. Obviously it has the right result. They say it dampens out more vibration so I was thinking that would reduce sound but I am thinking it may act more like wood and dampen out spurious vibrations so the soundboard can relaly sing with the intended vibrations.

I find ekoa to be an interesting alternative.

My wallet’s made of hemp, contrary to any slander you may have heard about Scotsmen, it’s seen plenty of action, had it about 8 years.

As you can see, it’s starting to open up nicely now.

Now that's hilarious!

Which reminds me of a story the great American folk musician John McCutcheon tells about his Scottish grandfather as part of introducing a hammer dulcimer piece. Apparently a fly landed on grandfather's whisky. Granddad grabbed the offending insect, shook it over his glass, and yelled "spit it out, ya b*****d!"
