Anything by Pentangle, which is mostly acoustic. Bert Jansch was a part of this band before they broke up, apparently because they got tired of their complicated arrangements.
All I can say is the music is amazing and it makes me alternately want to play more and give up in disgust because I don't think I'll ever be that good. |

To be unique, I'll add a vote for Solas' previous guitarist (he had left the band before this CD was released), John Doyle, and his solo CD "Evening Comes Early" |

*Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall 1971. (Old Man and Ohio are eternalized on this album).
*Beck - Sea Change... even though more orchestral, a classic. *Simon and Garfunkel have done some pretty clever acoustic work too. ***interesting anecdote: in this album, Neil Young introduces the song "Old Man" like this: This is a NEW song... that song was a few weeks or months old I think. Before he recorded it for Harvest. Last edited by Eric Acoustic; 05-16-2011 at 01:08 AM. |

What is your favorite acoustic album?
Cat Stevens 'Tea For The Tillerman' from 1970 - seems like just yesterday!

I'm a fan of Michael Hedges so most of his albums. Aerial Boundaries and Taproot are my favorites.

As a pure acoustic steel string guitar album and as an inspiration as to how great such music could be, Bert & John together
Why has there not been another? |

+1 on Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters.
My vote is classical (is that allowed?): Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, "LACQ Latin". Great idea for a topic, by the way.

There aren't too many all-acoustic albums that I like. One exception is an old cassette compilation I have of Lightnin' Hopkins. Great guitar playing, great singing, great songs, and lots of that old Lightnin' humour!

If I had to pick one, Pierre Bensusan's Intuite. Simply astounding compositions and performance. Lovely tone too. My favourite of his albums by quite some way.
Other favourites include Michael Hedges (esp Aerial Boundaries) and Nick Drake. After that, the list is too long to get stuck into! I've recently been enjoying Sergio Altamuro's (especially his early album produced by Will Ackerman) and Pino Forastiere's work though.
