Default Where's the most interesting place you've taken your Acoustic guitar to play?

On a hot summer day after praise team practice a group of us decided to grab some lunch at a hole in the wall family eatery closeby and because we did not want our guitars to wilt in the heat we brought them inside with us. Well, the owner noticed this and started making a joke about playing for our meal and we turned it around on him and said we would for a slice of the lemon meringue pie each...thinking it was going to be chuckled off but he looked us straight in the eye and said..."you got a deal"! Awkwardly we looked at each other, my fellow 6 string devotee and I; proceeded to whisper among ourselves and decided to whip through a few Beatles tunes and ended with an uplifting praise song!

The patrons seemed to enjoy this musical diversion and we proceeded to enjoy a nice big fat slice of lemon meringue pie!!

One of the best memories was hauling my old Alvarez out to West Texas...Big Bend country specifically...going primitive camping and playing in front of a campfire...no better acoustics than being outdoors!

Playing with the Bedouins on the beach at Sharm-el-Shek in 1971. There was a home-made lyra (?) and a drum and my guitar. No language other than a little Hebrew and French, but we laughed and laughed. I showed some chords, they showed me a bit on their instrument. A never to be forgotten moment.

I went on a trip across the U.S. a couple of years ago and took my 1931 Style O with me.
I have many great memories of that trip, but the highlight was sitting in the shade of a pecan tree, playing my guitar at Robert Johnson's gravesite in a small graveyard just outside Greenwood Mississippi.
I played for a few Japanese tourists, and then the pastor of the church stopped by. He gave me a tour of the 150 year old slave church. Words can't describe the magic of that day.

Jos, Nigeria on a missions trip. I helped to lead worship during chapel services at the Jos Evangelical Theological Seminary (JETS). A truly great experience!

Young and broke trying to get from one end of Fla. to the other. I stopped in a couple dives and played for a few hours. Got lunch, gas money, a few beers, and a couple cokes and a sandwich for the road. It was nice of them, but I'm so glad I'm not broke anymore.

It was the first place I played out in the open: Downtown Detroit at Sanders (home of Sanders fudge) and also out on the streets there. I was ~15 and thought downtown Detroit, where I lived, was the most interesting place in the world.

Having played around the planet now a bit:

I might still think that.

About 25 years ago and in another life guitar-wise, i was in the Navy and served aboard a small warship. My job was working in the Combat Information Center in the forward area of the ship, right across from the Commanding Officer's cabin.

That Alvarez 12-string absolutely got me through five years in the Navy, seemingly most of it spent bouncing around at sea.

When the ship was underway and out to sea, on our off-time a buddy and i would sit on the tiled deck right outside CIC in the very acoustically-sound Captain's passageway and play for hours.

He was probably just being nice, but you haven't lived until you've had your military commanding officer preemptively wave off your intentions to stop playing and jump to attention, by waving and saying, "No, no, fellas......keep playing......sounds great."

Cheers,
-js

Wow! That's beautiful! Reminds me of my jaunts to West Texas...where it was pristine...I actually felt like I was living in another time...

A cattle market sales ring, train waiting room, disused church, drying floor of a malting house and a foot passenger ferry to Falmouth, UK.

An abandoned church, maybe from the 16th century in the middle of a valley outside Barcelona,Spain, back in the 70's. We reach the valley, surrounded by mountains and a very old stone made big house, sided by a clean river. To reach that point we had to walk about 4 miles up and down a mountain. I clearly remember the tremendous acoustic environment inside the church. Those were fun times when nothing really seemed to matter at all. There was a cemetery in the backyard of the church and we also use to jam there.
Now I missed them.
