Default Another Fender acoustic thread

Brad Paisley was on Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night and, believe it or not, played a short parody song on a FENDER ACOUSTIC.

And, even with Brad playing the thing, it sounded crappy. Don't believe me?

Yep that's bad!! Really bad. Not sure what model it is but I've heard way better sounding $200 Yamahas.

I saw/played one of those for the first time last week at the Central Dallas Guitar Center. All solid woods...and pretty much junk. Two were displayed in the acoustic room next to the Martin display. If people "A/B" them, it's a sure-fire way to sell more Martin's.

Yep, terrible sounding git, but great song. How did he keep a straight face singing that!

interesting. I played 2 of those the other day at Guitar Guys up the street. Not that body size, more like an OM size, but that line of Fenders, and I thought they held their own against other $350 guitars

Fender has had (haven't played any in a few years) solid topped, lam back/side models that sounded and played fine and above their price-point. I believe anything (especially in the lowest price ranges) should be played before purchasing. I am surprised that anyone of Mr. Paisley's stature would play something that sounded bad.

Yes, but I believe the one he's playing (and the two I played) are the new Paramount series. All solid wood and they are $1k.

Does Fender put strap buttons here?
I'm pretty sure neck blocks don't reach that far.

I've not seen a strap button on a Fender from the factory. I've certainly never seen a factory strap button anywhere close to there.

If memory serves, I think that IS a factory strap button.

I had not seen them there, but I think you're right.

My Guild GAD25 has the strap button there from the factory. They glue a small block of wood on the inside to screw it into. Fender must do the same.

Yeah, probably so.

Yes that is a factory strap button and there is a block on the inside that supports it. A friend of mine recently bought on of those but it sounded much better than the one Brad played.

Default Microphone

It could be that the way the scene was mic'd was at least a factor here. Kimmel's mic could've been up the whole time so he could react, and--as he did at the end--join in. That bleed over from his mic could've colored the sound of the guitar.

I say all this as someone who doesn't own a Fender.
