Default Ahh - British Summer !

We saw Martin Simpson in our small town hall last night.
While I was buying drinks, four people came up to me and said how much they liked a) my band, or b) my club. (Nice!) I recognised none of them.

Earlier we were guests of our financial advisers at the British motor museum fifty miles away, and after some talks and a nice lunch in a medieval monastery, I found myself racing go-karts (now my wrists really hurt) and wandering around a fine collection of vintage cars.

Last Friday we saw a Greek Rebetika quartet in a little round church.
Tonight we will see an Eastern European folk band ...in a nearby Norman church.

We can stroll through town in shorts and t-shirts to gigs and shows as it if festival season.

Summer, even here in the south, is relatively short and so in June to August everywhere has a festival.

There is Wimbledon on the TV, and we are coping bravely with a surfeit of strawberries.

On my allotments (rented land for growing food) my trees and vegetables are thriving and doubling in size every two or three days.

At present the wondrous luminous greens of May are still around but darkening, and flowers, trees and vegetables are burgeoning.

My cat sleeps all day, often upside down in the conservatory or on (what we foolishly imagine) is our bed.

All the windows are wide open 24 hours a day, and the air is starting to smell warm, and in early evenings they carry the aromas of "BBQ" sausages and burgers (OK - we really don't "GET" proper BBQ in the UK) but as we live near the coast the breezes off the sea clean things up most nights to give us sweet fresh air in the early mornings.

As Nanny Jane and I walked home last night from Mr Simpson's gig it was about 10.30 and there was sufficient twilight and a full moon to make our new lampposts unnecessary.

We have had temps in the 30s (C) - high 80s (F) which is high for us. Tonight or tomorrow night we will have thunder storms which will water our plants and freshen up everything. (It might even rain for the British Formula 1 race on Sunday afternoon! (whoopee).

Nest Saturday We'll be playing an open air festival.

Ahh, British summer!

Sounds lovely! I've never been to your Isle in the summer and must do it!

Sounds lovely - which festival? I made it to the Big Session a few years back, Tara and I being big Oysterband fans, but have never been to any of the festivals down your way.

Nice post . I'm up in Liverpool not so idylic as your location but the inner city parks look and smell fantastic sitting at the outdoor cafes with a cool lemonade listening to the buskers and street artists, watching the young ladies promenade past doesn't get much better.

Living in the south it's easy to forget the fleeting nature of northern summers.
Sometime in March we passed 32 and never looked back.

When does first snow hit ?

How about some of those young British ladies walking around in their summer skirts?

We see plenty of that already in Florida.
Imagine a lobster in a skirt.

You might want to rename it 'British Summer 2015' - you know next year it will be raining again
